Check out this auction:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1370252927

It seems to me the guy's fishing for c2it referrals. Is it against the rules for him to require this before someone can bid?

pay with MO.
he wants the referal money,
so make him work extra and pay with paper.
technicaly I dont see anything wrong,
sellers did the same thing when PayPal gave $5.00 in the begging.

he needs the ID's to make sure that he gets his referal. that's kinda sad...

well pretty much seems to me that he will not honor your bid if you do not send him your c2it email. so either you have a c2it account or dont bother bidding. dont know it its legal or not tho.

correction : you cannot bid at all unless you send him the info he wants.

The auction is only for pre-approved bidders. Bidders have to sign up for C2it to become approved. Great scam!!

And if he ends the auction 61 minutes early? He winds up with a bunch of referrals at $5.00 each. And he's only out a 30 cent listing fee for the penny auction that got no bids. Neat scam.

The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.

Well i signed up for c2it cause i can use it anyway..sure a lot simpler to sign up with than it used to be! But i didn't use his referral link. How much do you want to bet that anyone who didn't use his referral link won't get on his preapproved list? Guess we'll see. I put myself in for another of his auctions that ends later today so we'll see how it turns out.

Guy has all positive feedbacks and apparently puts this condition on all his auctions. The customers appear to be getting their items though.

i went ahead and put myself in for one of his auctions i may or may notbid we will see when he opens up the bidding.

one thing tho. i know he gets the money from those who sign up for c2it to bid on his auction. (those who use his email as a referral, but last time i checked that is optional) so he is not guaranteed any money from that at all. then we have the people who already have c2it accounts. so either i have my info confused or this so called "scam" doesnt seem very "scammy like". since he may only get 1 or 2 people who even use him as a referral.

I guess you're right, it doesn't seem like a scam when you look at the big picture, or at least not much of one. I really wonder why he puts all these up for one cent though..but i'm guessing he probably has a tremendous bidding frenzy in the one hour he has the auction open and does pretty well. I probably won't even come close to winning. But still, i want to see how things turn out.
