Hi, everyone. Here's my problem. When I upgraded to Windows XP and got a new computer, my Adobe Photo Deluxe 2 would no longer work for me. I loooooove what I"ve been using and am sick that I'll have to learn a new system of some sort.

Adobe tells me they brought out Photo Shop Elements a while back but no longer sell it, and that Photo Shop Elements II (Aaaargh!) is coming out "sometime soon" and when it does I can download a free tryout "whenever."

In the meantime, I'm using my OLD computer just to edit photos. Has anyone used both my old Adobe Photo Deluxe 2 AND the new Photo Shop Elements (precursor to the new one coming out soon)? If so, was Elements similar to Photo Deluxe 2 or was it more complicated, as I've been told it was?

I tend to get very anxious and even weepy when I have to learn something new on the computer. JUST when I have something down cold, can do it with my eyes shut, almost, it's obsolete. I HATE this!!!!

I DETEST what happens when I get a new computer. What a con game the software people are playing on us! ~Adele

I've seen Photoshop Elements and used PhotoDeluxe. Elements is much more advanced and much better. PhotoDeluxe is very limited. It is totally for beginners, including that big clunky menu that takes up most of the screen. If you're familiar with PhotoDeluxe, then you're already ready for Photoshop Elements. Think of it as the best of Photoshop, with the stuff you wouldn't use left off.

So, twinsoft, will I get frustrated and weep? Do I still have easy ways to use contrast and brightness controls? Colors? With just a click of my mouse?

It's true I've had trouble getting some colors to be true, like the color brown, but it's been so easy to use.

Besides the menu not being so big, can you give me a hint of why it's better? Is it easier to navigate? (And thanks for your help, by the way!)

As you said, Photoshop Elements was just recalled. The next version should be coming out really soon. Or get v.1 on eBay.

PE can do SO MUCH MORE the PhotoDeluxe. It is NOT as easy to use, because it is not written for beginners. It is midway between PhotoDeluxe and Photoshop. You still use familiar bars and sliders, but there is no big menu of buttons at the top of the screen. So you have more room to edit your photos. If you can't figure something out, just use the online help system.

The JPG saves in PhotoDeluxe ARE muddy, as they were in all of Adobe's products, even Photoshop. Since Photoshop 6, they fixed that, and that is what you get with Photoshop Elements. The JPG saves are MUCH BETTER now, plus the ImageReady module lets you save files for the Web much more easily.

Sorry, I can't help you but do have something to share. I gave my brother PhotoDeluxe 2.0 which he installed on his computer running Windows XP. It totally freaked his system out and he had to do a complete restore. I have no idea what happen and just assumed it was something he did. He thinks I gave him a virus or something and has been fairly ticked at me since.

Thank you! I really appreciate your advice here. I guess I'll hold my nose and dive in, WHEN it's available! In the meantime, the old Photo Deluxe. . . .

roadsmith, I have an extra copy of PhotoDeluxe 4.0 ~ get in touch with me and I can send it to you.

It is much the same as 2.0 but since it's newer I bet it'll work with XP

I don't want to post my email address publicly but if you go to my website www.emptymirrorbooks.com/mail.html you can send a message from there.

cheers ~
Denise

You want to be very careful when installing old software into XP. There are a lot of older programs that are not compatible with XP. You have to wait for upgrades that state that they will run on XP. I was told that because MS has put in a photo shop, others won't run.. Kodak sued MS because of this. MS had to put in a patch to allow others to run.
I am running Win. 98SE & using Adobe Photo Deluxe 3.0 Home Edition that came with my Olympus camera. It works great & the directions don't take a lot of space on the screen, just a tool bar across the top. I have had it over 2 years.
