paypal. I had a bidder, even though i dont accept paypal, but this bidder INSISTED, and since my account wasnt a business account told her as long as it is not a CC payment, it's fine.It took a week, but person paid. I mailed the item, she left me a positive, and i left her a positive. then 6 weeks later, i got ths email..
=---------------------------------------
Hello, I waited to get my statement and sure enough I paid for this item twice on paypal to your account. Please credit one of the payment back to my paypal account. Please let me know when you will be doing this. Thanks,
----------------------------------------
I said "huh?" as I checked my paypal account history, and I only see ONE payment from her. So i woun't be sending her any money back, but I read nightmare stories on this board regarding how paypal handle when a bidder makes false claims. Anything I should be prepared to do? Please advise, thanks!

tell them to go back and check their paypal account. they may have misspelled one of them and it is still in their account as unclaimed..

You can also ask her to forward both of her paypal receipts to you. I have had people do this. I just say it didn't go into my account, can you forward me the receipt that they sent you so I can see if maybe something is spelled wrong (that is usually the problem)

if there are not 2 payments in your account i would not refund anything, as she did not send YOU 2 payments. have her check her paypal transactions thoroughly. she may have sent someone else the 2nd payment by mistake. so either way you owe her nothing.

Send her your correct e-mail address since she might have mis-spelled it.
Also, she might have bought the same item from 2 different sellers (this happend with one of my buyers). I checked her completed auctions and gave her the ID and auction # of the other seller.
Just try to remain polite and helpful, it might get cleared up with no hard feelings.

If one of the payments was unclaimed PayPal after a certain time returns it to the buyer or seller, whoever sent the money. I have had that happen. I think it takes about a month but you do get it back.

Hi, I took all your advice, and this is the email I got on Saturday
--------------------------------------------Hello, I have three transactions for this auction. After careful research I found, one payment I personally canceled, one payment reversed by paypal because the sellers ID was unverified and the last one was the actual payment. I'm sorry to upset you, I am new at this and didn't understand paypal very well. I really feel terrible about this. Thank goodness you had enough sense to come out of the rain. Best regards, XXX
--------------------------------------------
I said Ok, then she emails me a "copy' of the transaction, and something is wrong, the transaction id number doesn't match the transaction number of the payment I did recieve!!! All mail, ebay auction number, emails matched BUT the paypal transaction number, which shows up invalid.! I assume she is making this up or something. Then today I get this..
---------------------------------------------Hi, I didn't hear from you yesterday so I thought you might be confused by my e-mails. At first I thought that I had made a mistake, but when my daughter researched it she was able to show me how I had indeed paid twice. Plus my bank statement shows this. I sent you copies of e-mails from paypal confirming I paid twice. Please ask your family members to look again at the paypal account and he will find it. After looking through my account, I can certainly see how he might have missed it. Thanks, XXX
--------------------------------------------
BUT I CHECKED, THAT PAYPAL TRANSACTION NUMBER DOESN'T SHOW UP IN MY HISTORY, AND SHOWS AS A INVALID NUMBER AT PAYPAL! I heard stories where paypal will just close my account and take money out of my account and refund her, even though the evidence is smack on their face she is bluffing, for they hav lazy employees who just do what the buyer tells them to do! What sould i do?I don't think it is right to refund money i never recieved, on a paypal transaction that comes up invalid, can someone help me? Why are all the crazies out this season??

Before you do anything. Take all your money out of PayPal. Be sure it is not attached to your bank account..and it if is go to the bank and change it. I have two checking accounts. One that I send my PayPal payments to and the other is my main checking accout. They cannot (payPal) get into my main checking account. I am not having my money tied up because of some stupid buyer that can't follow instructions.

What does she mean family members. I assume you are in control of your faculities that you can do this yourself. After reading your last post, if she has an invalid number from PayPal I am sure they will catch that right away. Well I sure hope that they catch that. I guess you can't besure about anything except death and taxes. Good Luck

Ironking, would it make you feel any better to know that I have a customer right now who has sent payment for a 9.95 item not once but twice by "registered priority mail" which he claims is his standard way of paying for his auction wins (most of which are under 10.)? And neither one has reached me?

I received an email about this from PayPal on 7/24 warning that Visa transactions made between 7/19 and 7/21 may have been double posted to my Visa account.
I used my Visa debit card and sure enough several transactions from that weekend were double posted. I automatically received credit within a few days.
She needs to contact her CC company to verify a credit was posted to her account by PayPal.
If not, tell her to fax her CC statement to PayPal at 402-537-5750.

Hi Bananaspider, her payment was via her checking account. My paypal account does not accept CC payments so it couldn't have been a double charged. What scares me, isn't ebay now in cahoots with paypal? So if this person files fraud charges through paypal, wouldn't my account get suspended, over a invalid transaction number??!!

I don't understand, if the transaction number in incorrect how can she say she paid you. Go down to the bottom of the message center to the PayPal thread and ask Damon the question. He is usually in that thread.

ironking, the people that have accounts suspended only tell you 1/2 of the story and rarely come back to tell the other half. Don't let that small but loud minority scare you into thinking Paypal will lock your account over this.
Just email [email protected] with the account info and I'm sure he will pass it on to the correct department and will follow up for you.
I wish you good luck.
I hope this bidder realizes that she will have 2 transactions noted when she cancels one. One for the transfer, one for the cancellation, although at first glance it looks like it went through.
If she is paying you through her bank account, remember that cancelling an e-check will not send the money back to the bank if it has already been transferred out. The money would go back into the persons Paypal account, perhaps creating a third log in entry for that same $$ amount. Hope that makes sense. It can get confusing.
Good luck to you, all will work out in the end.

After giving this some more thought..
Wouldn't it be impossible for her to dispute the transaction with PayPal if the transaction number is invalid since it is required to file the complaint?

Hi BananaSpider, you are correct, however, can't she just file a complaint with the transaction with the valid number, the one that did go through?
