I have never had to file a USPS insurance claim before. I am not sure of the steps. Do I need to send my buyer the stuff and she files it or does she send the package back to me and I file it? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

The bidder must start the claim.

If the bidder returns the package to you it will cancel the insurance.

They bidder takes the damaged item and all the packaging to their P.O. and files an insurance claim.

Their P.O. looks the item over and decides whether to honor the claim or not. They can deny a claim for poor packaging.

The P.O. will keep the item if they are just paying out the claim. You also have the option to have the item repaired and they will pay that if it does not cost more to have it repaired than the insurance on the item.

After the bidders P.O. accepts the claim they will send you the form and you will take the form and your proof of insurance to your P.O. and they will pay the claim.

The bidder has the option of having the P.O. pay them or the seller. If it is an item you have more of you can have the P.O. pay you and then send another one to the bidder.

You should be aware that the whole process usually takes several weeks. If the claim lis unser $50.00 it will take less and over $50.00 they will drag their heel just about forever.

One more reason to not use the USPS.

another way to do it is for the seller to start the process-fill out the form and signed and specify payment goes to ?buyer/seller?,enclosed the insurance receipt and send it to the buyer.
buyer takes everything to his post office and a postal clerk will examine the package .
do not delay,sooner you start the process,the better off .
make sure there is also a sales receipt indicating the value of the item with company heading,ebay final notice is not good enough in some cases/
yes,usps is going more hardnose on ebay person to person taking in each other dirty laundry business,they feel some items are not just worth the price paid for,to add insult to injury,the poor packaging and non professional approach to business are all reasons why insurance premium has gone up.

My experience in dealing with the Post Office on insurance claims has been very positive. I had a shipment sent to Hawaii that broke open losing part of the shipment. The purchaser returned what was left & I filed an insurance
claim (since I had the insurance receipt & a copy of the invoice). The next morning there was a envelope from the postmaster containing a MO for the loss.

I guess the Benefits of living in a small town (300 people) are now known once you get on a first name basis with everyone at the post office.
