Thanks, Doan ... yeah, i been admiring this from a distance for the past year and THOUGHT it was a lamp, all along. Now that I'm close up checking it out, i realized it wasn't a lamp at ALL ... nice brass acorn finial tops it off, but no electrical anything about it. ... it's just an ornate post shaped artwork, and YAH, i think i'm looking for a French word ... epergne! that's it! thank you for jogging my aged memory.

Hi, I have never seen one quite like this, it is Spainish or Italian made in the 50's. I have had chandeliers made like the top with flowerws hanging down, just never seen it in a lamp? form. IF you are going to list it, I would use the terms; Shabby chic, cherub ( can't tell by the pic if it is a cherub) statue, Italian tole with porcilain roses and crystals. It is really unique and the shabby chic people will like it. Is it possible the wiring has been taken out? I think you would do well with this piece on ebay. Sorry still do not know what you would call it though. In the 50's they made alot of stautes that sat on the floor, this is a fancier one than I have seen before.

remember no html tags on the message center ... instead use [ ]'s with either img or url at the start and /img or /url at the end [*img]http://blahblahblah[*/img] but remove the asterisks

I just now saw slabholders link

thanks, tooltime ...
Hi Kat ... no, this definitely is not constructed to the intention of a being a lamp ... and i have a question about "cherubs"; can something be considered a cherub if it doesn't have wings? ... i always considered this kind of 'cherubic looking child' a "cherub" ... [but there's no wings on this little fella] ...

I have seen these "cherubs" without wings referred to as "putti" on the Antiques Roadshow.

In capodimonte they refer to children as being cherubs, sometimes they have wings, sometimes not. I think it is a great piece!

JACKSWEBB SAYS: AINTRICH,,,,,WHERE DID YOU GET THAT PICTURE OF MY BEDROOM????? CARBON COPY! TONS OF JUNK TOO! NICE JUNK THO'. CEPT' YA AINT GOT NO BARBIES??

I HAD A VERY, VERY SIMILAR LAMP LIKE THIS ONCE A MUCH MORE MATURED,,,,,,FIGURE OF A WOMAN HOWEVER,,,,SOLID BRASS,,HEAVY,,,,,SAME SIZE.....I GOT IT BEFORE IT EVER HIT THE GROUND OUT SIDE OF A GOOD WILL FROM THE DONOR. $20.00. I HAD AN IDEA IT WAS OLD. IT WAS,,,,,,,I SOLD IT AT THE SWAP MEET FOR $175.00! YIKES!!!! SORRY IF THAT'S LESS THAN YOUR BIDDING PRICE.

YUP YER RIGHT ABOUT IT NOT BEING A LAMP. JUST A DUSTER. I THINK I REMEMBER MINE HAVING SOMETHING IN FRENCH WRITEN ON THE BOTTOM. OH BTW,,,,THE BUYER WAS A SELLER TOO. HE SOLD IT THE SAME DAY AGAIN,,,,,NOPE,,,HE NEVER TOLD ME. WE ALL MADE OUT. NOW HOW MUCH IS YOURS GOING FOR? IF,,,I MAY.

this is Jack's bedroom??? you all gussied up in shabby chic? [just kiddin'] ....
Jack, you're right; I got no Barbies ... ... most of it is tres~ nice junk, and a lot of not nice junk too ... we sell the not great junk at flea market, the nice junk on ebay, and furniture, furnishings, and bulky things at local antique mall ... inherited/invested in antique shop from deceased father-in-law ... we still have a lot of moolah to raise to pay off one of the bros his portion of the estate, otherwise i'd start all this stuff at low prices ... dad-in-law price tag on this was $275 ... [might be why it's still here LOL!] ... on ebay, i want to price it to sell, but i don't want to 'give it away' either ... I think I will try starting it out at closer to your flea market "sell" of $175; maybe a little lower because then get some auction action goin' on it. ... [although i still don't know exactly what to title it. LOL] .... wish us luck ...

Thanks for input ... we have quite a few real "whats-its" around here, and this was one of them ...

This looks like a mantle lustre. They were usually in pairs and sat on each end of mantel or buffet with centerbowl between them. They were usually porcelain or crystal but I have seen some that had silver or brass. Just a thought!

Thank you, shirsc ... you may be right ... only i think this would have been the 'centerpiece' of a 3 piece set that would have had candle lamps or lamps aside it, to illuminate the crystal prisms. ...
