Hello
I thought I would list some things from several late 50's Madamoiselles that I have come across.
They had some musty smell, but I have been scrupulously drying them and airing them out.
I have one car ad which may sell, but it's not even getting any looks, really.
I wonder if I am listing them correctly or should I be cutting them out of the magazine?
The magazines have glue and staples, which I am carefully removing. I left the leaf of paper in tact, so there are two magazine pages, rather than just the one.
I have looked in google but am not really sure where to look.
Any help or ideas would be appreciated.
auction is:

I have some cool things that I thought people might want, Madame Alexander dolls paired with perfume, etc, and would like to figure the best way to ensure I am describing them correctly.

Thanks!
Japerton

Nothing wrong with your ad. Just that there are tons of old magazines around with that same car ad that can be picked up for free. A collector / car nut would want something they could frame and it would have to be perfect! good luck.

Japerton,

I sell thousands of magazine ads. And without giving away too many trade secrets, I think I might have a few suggestions:

1) Magazine ads technically can not be shipped via Media Mail. (They are advertisements) You're not likely to have someone check at the post office... but they really should be shipped first class.

2) It looks like you are packaging the ads correctly (flat and with protective cardboard/plastic). However, when you ship, make sure that you include the words "do not fold or bend" in big letters on your envelope. Postal workers will try to fit ANYTHING in a small 3x3" mailbox.

3) Your title isn't very good at grabbing attention.... and leaves a lot of questions unanswered (lots of different 1957 chevy models were produced!) Notice the caption underneath the picture of the car. This picture is of a Bel Air Sport Sedan. This information should definately be in your title and description. You might even want to mention the car color in the title.

4) Finally... understand that the sell-through rate on advertisements is very low. If 10% of any sellers ads sell at a given time, they are doing very well. That means, that your starting bid has to be high enough to cover a good number of re-lists. While starting your ad out at $1.99 may seem like a good idea to draw in interested bidders... you'll find that if a collector is looking for this ad... they'll pay $9.99 just as readily. You just have to keep the ad on the market long enough to find the right customer.

Anyhow... hope this information helps a little! Don't get too discouraged if you don't have much luck. There is a lot of competition in the advertising categories these days... and it's tough to break into when you have a low feedback rating. (The market right now is dominated by several dozen big-time powersellers with feedback ratings of 1000+) Good luck with your auctions!

This really has nothing to do woth the topic of selling ads on ebay but I thought that I would post it anyway.

I was at a local flea market about 6 years ago. This rather low life couple were selling several different things. One of their many items was an ad for a 1956 Cadillac in a cheapo brass picture frame. The ad was literally torn out of the magazine on an angle. About 1 inch of the bottom half was missing. Their price on this beauty, $15.00. What a laugh!!

We've got several old magazines from the early 20's with great auto and other ads in them. Question is, what would you recommend as a category to list them in to get the best results? Thanks for the help!
