sorry guys, this is not masonic...I purchased it thinking it was because my uncle is...the masonic does not have the fist with the hammer, it has the large G in the center.

This may be a division of the Masons. They have many other branch organizations for men, women, boys, and girls.

I spent many years of my youth as a Job's Daughter and know there are so many other groups affiliated with this order.

Just the two cents Ebay hasn't gotten yet...

I wonder if it predates the G? The arm and hammer are sorta G-shaped... Maybe it's really old.

I have an antique jewelry book that shows fobs and emblems with the masonic emblem dating back to 1896. They show several styles but most have a big G instead of the shield and no arm. The ones without the big G show a little G There are none in this book like the one you have..

thanks to all so far.

Libra, you know what they say about great minds...I think I checked the same book. I have a feeling this has something to do with metal work but can't find it on ebay

I did go to a site for union banners and there is one that shows a man with the hammer and his fist up working on a sword..

have not been able to find a site with union symbols though.

I don't believe it is a Masons

Libra,

What a small world! I didn't think anyone knew about the archaic order anymore (or at least not in main stream America)! I am a PHQ from #338 West Sacramento. Kinda Funny.

I think it is Masonic, but maybe from another nation. Masonic Lodges are world wide. The Compass & the Square are definitely Masonic emblems. I have a pair of cuff links from an uncle, the compass & square with the G in the middle.

So what is it? The emblem on the glass webpage doesn't say if it's Masonic for sure.

Not Masonic - It is Junior Order of American Mechanics. If you scroll down to the small lettering at the end of the page you will see a secion Fraternal click that and they have more items up forsale.

Gee, Libra, you're so generous! I think I'll pass, got enough of my own NPB's...

Interesting link you posted.

Just goes to show no matter what you're trying to ID the AW folks will help out.

Several months ago I had a very old childrens book - - The WooLoo and Lita May. I asked for help here and got pointed in the right direction. The lady who bought it said it was her daughter's favorite book when she was little. She bought it for the daughter's 50th birthday, delivered it to her in Hawaii. Both of them were very happy to get the book.
