What is wrong with these Sellers?
I 'remembered' an ID that I never got the chance to use ~ I had created it to sell a certain category and the deal fell through.
ennyhoo~
I used the ID to bid on a few items (zero FB since 7/01).
Two of the items were from a 750fb seller (NOT a PowerSeller, only 96% positive).
Opened my e-mail to find out she had cancelled one of the auctions this morning.
No communication from seller, only that my bid was cancelled & auction is over.
okie dokie.
I had only placed the second bid to take advantage of combined shipping, the deal no longer interested me.
>12 hrs left on #2 so I cannot retract.
I e-mail the seller stating the above info.
she replies:
YOU bid, YOU retract it.
okie dokie, moron. No can do.
I respond with the obvious answer that I would have been THRILLED to cancel my bid without having to deal with her but she made that impossible ~ 12 hrs yadayadayada.
adding:
don't wanna cancel my bid?
If I win, I'm sure you'll like the feedback that I leave you.
so of course I won.
Does she think I'm a moron newbie?
I found that she has a habit of ending auctions a few days early, cancelling bids in fear that they will not reach a *good enough* final bid.
1)Her attitude sucks
2)I want to NEG her right this very second
3)I want to report her arrogant ignorant you-know-what so she doesn't scare off Buyers!
Is it me?
Am I cranky?

If your assumptions about her are correct, then she certainly deserves the negative feedback.
I'd ask her why your bid in her first auction was cancelled. If you receive a less than adequate response, than your assumptions about her reasoning are most likely correct, and I'd leave the deragatory feedback.
The least she can do is make both transactions void so you can each go your separate ways. If she is unwilling to do this, she's no good, and deserve a little red on her record.

I am a Seller ~ YES NEG her
She deserves it
Many times I have listed without a reserve and let things go for way less than I paid.
That's the breaks of ebay selling .. it is an auction ~ you win some & lose some

Yoe BET, give her a NEG. She deserves it. She gives us as sellers a bad rap, which the great majority do not deserve. As my love pointed out; out of every thousand people, there is bound to be one bastxxx. You have found one.

Yes, I will neg her.
I'd like to choose words that will warn bidders ~ not nasty, just:
Seller cancels auctions, don't bother bidding here
any input or advice on the FB wording?
The sad part is that if I had bid with my regular ID, she wouldn't have attempted to play such nonsense games.
I'm primarily a Seller ~ this kind of eBayer really gives us a bad rap.
I'd like to bring SafeHarbor attention to the way she transacts her business ~
am I being petty about that part?
I am a silver Level PowerSeller with over 99.5% positive, the last two sellers that I reported have been Naru'ed (1 for shill bidding, the other for ending auctions early).
Although I feel that she is horribly lacking ethics and manners, it may be harsh to have her Zapped for it.
Too cruel or justidfied enough to report?
TIA, again
edit: funky smiley!

I am seeing more and more sellers that have a no inactive accounts clauses in their long assed TOS. They never define what actually constitues an inactive account. I know that long-dormant accounts have an excellent chance of having dead emails but that is something they have to deal with like everybody else.
If you don't mind the negative retaliatory feedback then go ahead and give here one as a learning aid.

thanks tooltimes.
I don't think I mind the retaliation ~ it will be the only FB on the page.
I'll just have to forget that ID again.
bummer
it was a cool name ~ there are so few left!
update:
Seller e-mailed me.
PIMP!
She blamed having to cancel the auction on AW!
LMAO!

I am a seller. Unless you sent her e-mail
before bidding stating that you only wanted
the one item, then she was within her rights
to cancel the other auction and expect you
to follow through on your bid for auction #2.
And I also have a policy that I do not cancel
others bids (you bid, you retract it).
Try putting yourself in her shoes for a
second and see if things don't look just a
little different to you. If they don't then
you just may be a "moron newbie". :^) My
guess is that she does NOT have ESP, and
therefore had no idea what your original
intentions were.

Zathras, read the posts again. The last seller he reported for this got NARUed. So, no, the seller is not within their rights to end an auction early for any old reason. There is a mechanism in place for sellers to set a minimum acceptable bid. Other use such as described here constitutes fee avoidance, in addition to being unfair to bidders who bid in good confidence.
Zoomin, yes I would report the seller. Let eBay deal with it, but it should be brought to their attention.

zathras:
I too am a seller.
am I supposed to have ESP that she is going to randomly cancel auctions?
I've never heard of a seller transacting business in such a manner and being permitted to remain on eBay.
I also have a policy that I do not cancel others bids
then it would violate your policy to cancel bids and end an auction early, no?
If SHE cancelled bid #1, SHE can cancel bid #2, ESPECIALLY since SHE left me no time to do it for myself!
on the bright side, since SHE wouldn't cancel the bid that I was UNABLE to retract, I get to leave her a nice RED NEG.
still think you bid, you retract it is so smart?
I would consider it foolish, at best.
you just may be a 'moron newbie'
No dear, that ID has zero feedback.
I have over 6000 transactions under my belt to date.
is that still wet behind the ears in your opinion?
Put myself in the sellers shoes?
I'm a PowerSeller with 99.5% positive feedback. I handle my business professionally.
I choose to not be in the shoes of a seller who habitually cancels auctions. If they don't want to take a risk, they shouldn't start auctions at a bid they are unwilling to accept.
It is unethical & violates eBay policy.
... but perhaps YOU are comfortable in Scam Seller Shoes???

Morning zoomin - I don't know about this one. As we're all aware some of ebay's rules say one thing is allowed and then another will be in direct conflict with that same rule.
I just did an ebay search on 'cancelling bids' in the help section and this is what I found.
A seller cancelled all bids and ended an auction early
eBay policy currently gives any seller the right to cancel all bids and end an auction early. We encourage sellers to post an addition to the description of the auction explaining why they have ended the auction early. However, this sometimes this does not happen.
If you have any additional questions about why this happened, we suggest you email the seller and ask them directly. If you think a seller may be abusing this policy, you can report the situation to us through our webform. When sending us an email Be sure to include all relevant auction numbers and User IDs.

thanks Linda!
If you think a seller may be abusing this policy, you can report the situation to us through our webform
that's the part that interests me.
consistent cancellation of auctions is, IMHO, abuse.
curious...
Similar to the 'bid retraction' section on a FB profile, should there be a 'cancelled auction' section?
shouldn't bidders be warned about questionable sales practices
as (currently)
sellers are warned about questionable bid practices?

I agree. And yes, it would be wonderful if the number of times a seller cancelled their auctions were listed. But how long did it take before ebay listed the retractions?
I've always wondered what the % of cancelled auctions are because the seller received an 'off ebay' offer. We'll never know.
posted on December 16, 2002 07:06:32 AM
I never thought about how rampant it must be.
I'm too big of a chicken to sell off eBay
(actually just too paranoid of getting caught)
(and taking a low-ball offer!)
Call me clueless ~ the bid retraction section blew me away when I saw what some bidders were getting away with
sometimes being honest is just plain sucky!
how's this FB?
Seller actively cancels auctions, don't bother bidding here!

Well...it's certainly your call....but are you sure aboutI'll just have to forget that ID again. bummer it was a cool name
sometimes being honest is just plain sucky! Naw....being honest feels good. We sleep better at night
But if you decide to leave a neg...that one sounds appropriate.
posted on December 16, 2002 12:13:20 PM
yes, LindaK, we do sleep better!
maybe that's why I want to warn other bidders.
BUT
the more likely scenario:
the vengeful bad girl in me really wants to leave a fat juicy NEG to knock her on her butt!
Messing with a *newbie*
HAH!!
