I have had problems having my online usps delivery confirmation labels scanning during the past 30 days, when I have never had any problems beore. My ONLY change was changing the ribbon: same paper, computer, setting everything. We have gotten a new POST MASTER this week and she informed me that it is no longer necessary to scan the online delivery confirmation at the window, she claims that she received this directive about a month ago and that it why my delivery confirmations are not scanning. (horse huey!) I am only one of two people who do this in my whole town, so there is not a lot of precedent for them to compare to.
Has anyone heard of this "new" directive from USPS??????????
I love the scanning at the counter now, it has saved my butt about 10x since June 30th!! The postal people love to claim that when I generate a label, that in effect scans the package into the system ******bull!!!!****** that only proves I made a label, not that it ever got to any post office!!!! But, I have noticed a difference this week, after June 30th, when you would view the delivery confirmation report, it would say accepted at, 1/17 2:33 p.m. at the post office location of mailing. NOW, as of December 14th from my records it no longer indicates the post office of drop off it just lists major points of entry such as our packages heading west get scanned in St Paul.

"My ONLY change was changing the ribbon"
Sounds like it's the printer.
You don't need to have them scan them at the post office, just take the bottom half of the label that you cut off and have them stamp it. But if they can't scan it then they might not be able to at the other end either.

At My post office,, they scan every D.C. label I have on each package,, Priority, parcel post, or 1st class. When the NEW rates went in to effect, they are now required to scan them in....Hope this helps.

marvey: Your postmaster is correct.

Okay, let's clear the confusion.
Delivery confirmation service is just what it says: confirmation of DELIVERY. It is not tracking. Our eDC packages are scanned once, at the destination.
While you are correct that generating an eDC number only proves that you intend to consign an eDC package, the round-stamped receipt is intended to serve as your "proof" of mailing.
You are getting your receipts stamped, aren't you, or are you listening to the yokels around here who say "Oh, all you need to do is cut out the barcode and paste it on the package!"
Q. What does it mean when I check on my electronic rate Delivery Confirmation or Signature Confirmation service mail piece and I receive a message that says "The U.S. Postal Service was electronically notified by the shipper or shipping partner on May 30, 2002 at 10:31 p.m. to expect your package for mailing?"
A. When you mail a shipping label using electronic rate Delivery Confirmation or Signature Confirmation services, the mailing information for your label is electronically sent to the Track & Confirm database. This information, in the form of an electronic file, is often consolidated and sent at one time during the day, often in the evening. This step indicates intent to mail an item, not the actual mailing date or time itself. Confirmation services do not provide actual mailing or acceptance information as part of the service offering. Confirmation of delivery or attempted delivery is provided.
