We use to ship over seas all the time, then all of the sudden we started getting hit by charge backs, people saying they never received their items. I am sure most did, but had no way to prove it, since they were shipped Global Priority, and I don’t see where there is the opportunity to require a signature – THE signature is what both the credit card companies and PayPal want.
IF you ship outside the USA, how are you getting confirmation/receipt signatures? Do you ship USPS or another method?
I just checked UPS, AirBorn, etc, and for a small item, the price is ridiculous – for one pound to England UPS is $44, and AirBorn is about $35!
The USPS is only $5.00 for this particular size item, but how to get a signature?
Within the USA, we require a signature for everything we ship. But I see no way to require such via the USPS.

I ship between 5 and 10 packages a week overseas and have had only one go undelivered. It has not been a problem. I use Global Priority most of the time.

for overseas transactions, paypal has no seller protection,so signature receipt would do you no good if they use paypal to pay you.
as for direct credit card transaction,if you ship usps first class ,you can have it insured or if it is express mail, insurance is included up to 500 dollars.
ems would require them to sign the package.
insured first class if over 50 would also require them to sign for the package.
another way is to send certified or registered mail.
global priority mail may be faster than first class, but you cannot take out any insurance .
which country do you ship to and what are you selling??

If shipping cost is a huge factor for your buyers I would only accept bidpay [money order] for overseas buyers and not take paypal or direct CC payments.
There is no "seller protection" from PP for overseas deals anyway.
Some things insurance or signatures are just not feasible. If that is the case just let them know that the shipping is on their own risk.

Hello
I ship overseas all the time If lot is is over 30.00 I ask for registration. Over 50.00 I insist. I make it plain that no registartion is at their risk. I have far less lost lots overseas than in good old USA.
(like about 20 to 1!)
That said somethings because of weight, size or value are not suited for over seas blanket offering. One must plan their strategy and list as appropriate.
posted on July 8, 2003 09:01:31 PMTHANKS! SO MUCH, since I was strictly shipping Global Priority, I couldn't find a way to get a signature, but I'll definitely check out First Class, Registered, Insured, AND insist on MO's, which is time consuming, but that sounds like it would solve the problem, even without MO's if I can get a signature, I'm covered.
THANKS AGAIN, SO MUCH, We have some major buyers overseas, but I have just gotten to the point I have refused to ship because of charge back problems with over seas shipments -
We don't use PayPal for overseas, so that isn't a problem.
