I do very little shipping outside the US so to cover my on butt is it OK to ship scrap dental gold to Canada? I read the Canada Post Corporation Act and Regulations which reads:

5.Gold bullion, gold dust and non-manufactured precious metals unless accepted for transmission by post pursuant to an agreement with the Corporation.

But it's all confusing to me ....Thanks !

Dental gold is not all gold. It is a mixture of gold and something else. Most companies won't buy dental gold until you send it to them to find out the actual gold in the tooth or crown. I think that this the law is for pure gold. I am sure that buyers buy gold jewelry all the time from eBay and that is shipped. Following is a make up of gold crowns.

Not all gold crowns are the same--far from it--and you should know the difference. Some gold crowns are made of an economy gold and are only gold in color and don't possess the casting characteristics so important for a good seal at the edges. This significantly decreases the life of the crown. These cheaper gold-content crowns are on the order of ten carat and do not have the tissue tolerance and compatibility of a higher gold-content alloy. They are cheaper, but in the long run you'll spend 5-10 times as much on these inferior products. The best of the dental gold is an alloy of many metals, (allowing for certain hardness factors that are required) and are usually about 76% gold or a little over 18 carat. Anything more and they start to lose other characteristics that are too important to sacrifice.
se.

Thanks Libra ! It's already up to 24.50 but I had a Question for seller that asked if the shipping to Canada was the same as the US and I didn't know if I could even ship it there so I went looking and found that rule and thought "rut ro" can I ship it or not.

Dental gold is not all gold. It is a mixture of gold and something else.

All gold, unless it is 24k, is a mixture of gold "and something else".

24k gold is too soft for most purposes, so it is alloyed with other metals to make it harder.

This sounds like it could possibly be at the discretion of the customs officer that intercepts it. Also, how would they figure the duty? Would they use the auction price or what they perceive to be "market value"? Your customer may have a hassle at her end when they deliver it. I would have her check with Canadian Customs before she bids.

The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.

Thanks sparkz I'll do that just to be safe ....I'd think it whatever the end price is but you can never tell when it comes to government and customs.
Take South Carolina....they outlawed video poker cause it was gambling then started the Lottery up 6 months later (big sign on the front of the lotto web site...says if you feel you have a problem with gambling call 1-800-blah-blah remember the lottery is for fun)hmmm but isn't illegal to gamble in S.C.

Let me get this right. Are you actually auctioning scrap dental gold? If so, why?. You can just sell it where you live. I'll buy it if you have a problem.

Somebody at eBay must be a protege of Canada Post.

We found it with our metal detector a couple years ago pointy...it's just been laying in a cup on my desk collecting dust.....I took it to Fast Freddie's pawn shop Friday to see how much he'd offer cause where else would you sell it.Weight 6.1 penny weight which came out 9.48672 grams...he said it's 14k without testing and offered 36.00 for it and I could keep the 6 diamond chips thats in it.Well I had just saw a lot of 16 grams of dental scrap sell for 174.00 and thought if i get half that I'll get a better price selling it on ebay...so it being auctioned .It's at 50.66 now .... with listing, fvf and paypal fees I'll still clear a little more off ebay if it stays at that price and it still has 3 days 21 hours to go....keeping my fingers crossed

That's an interesting choice of signature you have there. Your hatred towards other groups that you obviously don't understand is quite perplexing. I am guessing you have no tolerance for anyone else in this world beyond yourself.
