Over the course of the last two to three weeks, I have seen a troubling increase in participants in "The Ebay Outlook" forum giving more arguements about politics, social and cultural views etc. This forum is about Ebay. It is for participants to share their stories, ask questions, and give feedback about Ebay.
I am troubled over the barage of political comments, banners, etc. I care to read about your hatred towards jews or gays, or jewish gays. I don't really want to read anything about this years election, who you support, or who you hate.
This is only supposed to be about Ebay. If you wish to give your views, there are hundreds, if not thousands of sites dedicated to your cause. You can even visit the Vendio Round Table and talk about anything there. The Ebay Outlook is about ebay.
Please use some professionalism when you post on here. I support your freedoms to free speech, no matter what the subject, but do it in a place that it is meant to stand on your soapbox.
Thanks,
Rusty

Rustygumbo I am with you all the way. This is a great discussion group and to dress it up in political or ethnic views is wrong. Thank you for starting this thread and I hope everyone will agree. It is a friendly, well sometimes) place to visit, read and find information about lots of things. My ethnic and political are mine and I don't try to push them on anyone else.

Nice post, and I am in agreement with you on this. Post it to the RoundTable if you want to talk about politics, let's keep this area on topic about online auctions, not politics.

I knew someone would say something like that. Pretty predictable. You get the point.

Look up the word before you use it...
How professional is it to link another sellers auction and not invite the seller to comment?
How professional is it to come in here and degrade buyers behind their backs...
How about you leave your holier than thou attitude at the door or try the ignore button?
This is the eBay outlook and eBay should be the major discussion but don't confuse that with professionalism... I see little of that here... just people trying to make a living.

People post what they want. If you dont like it, ignore it.

I agree with neroter.
I am guessing you are referring to sig tags as well. The sig tags are a feature of Vendio, just as the wonderful option to "Ignore".

give me a break. i find it interesting that twelvepole and neroter feel it necessary to give everyone your political and anti-cultural opinions, yet feel I have no right to to make a valid argument. Obviously others feel the same about the comments I made. Not everyone wants to be subjected to politics on a regular basis. Some of use Ebay and Vendio for an escape from the daily barage of politics, crime, social problems, unemployment, etc. If we want politics we'll do what we want to get political input via radio, television, protests, civic groups, etc. I have a choice with those options to view it or participate. I don't have to listen or watch Howard Stern or Rush Limbaugh or Chris Matthews if I choose not to. I can turn that off or never turn it on. I can assume that a vast majority of us dislike SPAM and dislike Banners. That is exactly what you are providing. You are forcing us to deal with your personal views and special interests, even if we don't want them. If you want people to listen to you, go where others want to listen. If you wish to participate in subjects regarding this forum or Ebay, then this is what it is about.

Without moderation (there were some good aspects about that) it is impossible to make others stay on topic - However, there is something that you can do. Those with political banners and regular rants will simply just be put on my ignore list. The point of posting here is to foster a discussion, those who continue to disregard the charter of this area should just be ignored and not have their voices heard here.

Here is an example of unprofessional anti-gay/anti-semite comments made by Twelvepole that none of us need to discuss regarding ebay in the Ebay Outlook forum:

rustygumbo, I think you're twisting your shorts a bit too much here.
Here's a first..... kiara defends twelvepole! Twelve dropped his one signature line the other day and YOU were the one to dig it up again last night. For what purpose?
eBayers have all sorts of experiences and believe in all kinds of issues. This forum is mainly about eBay and is much better without moderators and everyone knows it. Who cares if the topics stray now and again, it's not like anyone HAS to read it all.

What a piece of work you are, gumby.
You want to read only about eBay so you start a fight and REPOST (how dumb is that?) some comment made--as far as I know--once somewhere else and written expressly to make a point in that thread.
Free speech for everyone 'cept the folks you don't like, eh, gumby? I don't much like you. You'd better try to censor me, too.

Lets see I have a signature line... it is not a discussion... it is not a topic I have brought up for discussion here on this board...
Only you rusty have made it an issue... only you are continuing to make it an issue... if you can't over look signatures then I do see a problem and it is not in my mirror, but yours...
I am wondering though how this topic is eBay related... I guess things are slow around the home front?

I don't see hpw anyone here is "forced" to read anything. There is this neat little option that allows one to ignore posters who you don't care to read, including their tag lines. Personally I got sick of Toms tag line a within about a day of seeing it three dozen times, I found it distracting and annoying. I could have asked him to delete it but I don't consider that to be my right. I do however have the right to ignore it and so I have chosen to put his posts on ignore. I would suggest that you explore that option rather than attempting to edit the thoughts of others. It's a much easier solution.

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

The big problem for me is wanting and getting what looks like good advice from an old pal here on Vendio and then finding out that he/she has political views so weirdly askew (to me!) that it colors my views of that person. I would much rather NOT know people's political views here in the EO. Just my opinion, of course.
I'm a Democrat. But no tag lines, no banners.
