I have some Wallace Brothers flatware to sell, and on the back it says "Wallace Brothers overlaid. Can someone explain that to me please, I presume it means silverplate, but is there anything else I should know about it before listing. Cannot find that word anywhere on eBay auctions for Wallace silverwear.

It means silverplate. Someone may try to sell you the line that it is "better" or "heavier" silverplate. Nonsense.

If someone asks me what "overlaid" means, do I just say silverplate. I am wondering why, with all the silverplace auctions on eBay, not one has "overlaid" in the auction, but that is what is written on the implements.

amber, if you check on ebay you'll find that some of the Rogers silver plated flatware is marked overlaid also.

Thanks folks, it doesn't seem to be a term that is used too often, but I found several with the term from Rogers, and a certificate which explains it a bit more.
