This bidder won an auction on April 3 for a widget and with shipping it came to 46.30.
She send her address but I never heard from her again. I emailed her last night and asked when I might expect payment. She says she has to go out of town because her brother commited suicide and needs the money for airfare. I told her I have to file with ebay to get my fees back. She said she would have to borrow money to pay me. I have heard them all as have been on ebay for 4 years. What would you do???

Mighty inconsiderate of her brother. I've heard them all too--too many times. NPB,FVFs and move on.

April 3, that's way too long too wait and ask for payment. What you have is a deadbeat pure and simple. As max says file for your fees and move on.
Put this "bidder"on your auction block so you do not have to deal with this again with her.
What I find works well for me is if I do not hear from them after I contact them then I send them only one more email within a week after auction closes.
After that I send a N.P.B. notice and if that does not wake them up I wait for the 10 days and file for my F.V.F.
After filing the N.P.B. I just relist the item or ask the second high bidder if they still want it. Never waste a lot of time on deadbeats if you can help it.
The future has taken root in the present.

Well, Niel, if she IS telling the truth, her brother's been on ice for a mighty long time...

I don't challenge excuses, I always go ahead with the NPB/FVF process. On the rare occasion that they do pay and I still have the item to sell, I just reverse the FVF.

Guess I'm an old softie.
I'd give her a date the payment must arrive by, either by snail mail or through an onlinepayment service. If the payment arrived, great. If not, then I'd file NPB and leave a neg.

I was ... feeling guilty.
What did you do wrong, that you should feel guilt for?

I listed an expensive item that I was SURE would bring a lot of bids, with a starting bid of $9.95 and no reserve. To my surprise, although it had about 60 hits, it only brought one bid and so I'm obligated to sell it for $9.95. My terms of sale clearly state that full payment must be received within 10 days of auction's close. So now I get an email from the winning bidder saying that she's going to pay me with Pay Pal, but she can't pay until about three days after the payment is supposed to be here because she has to wait for her disability check. (Most people who use Pay Pal use credit cards). Being an old softee, I emailed her back and said OK (only because there weren't any other bids), but also told her that she should have cleared it with me BEFORE bidding. Now I'm thinking I should have just said "Sorry, you're out of luck" and relisted it with a BIN. Any thoughts on this? (The item was used, but in next to new condition and originally cost about $150).

The problem is not just on eBay. My sister and I also sell on an online antique site. We now have 7 sales with non paying buyers and no feedback or possible suspension to hold over them. At least there are no listing fees or final value fees until the sale is finished but it takes the items out of inventory and requires time to hassle with the so called buyer while they string us along. Is buying on the internet a new computer game?

Well folkd, you were right. I filed a NPB and a FVF just yesterday. Last night she said they were taking care of their uncle's personal effects and his funeral but they would pay when I let them know the total.
BROTHER ??? UNCLE ???? Wish she would make up her mind who it was that died.........

photosensitive,
ebay sellers will browse a website and look for items to resell, copy the item description and picture and list it on ebay.
they can tell you they are buying this item so you wont sell it to anyone else.
if the item gets no bid ,then you are not going to hear from them.
why dont you search ebay and see if your item(s) are there?? or were there at one time??

I usually wait but I can honestly say I have never had an excuse like any of those. I do get the echecks but that is all. I sure hope my luck doesn't change. I do get non pay bidders though but I never get an excuse I just don't get a response. I never leave a negative as it doesn't to any good I do file for my charges and that leaves a mark on their record. If everyone does that then maybe by some stroke of luck some buyers will be NARU.

right on, she had to fly somewhere. I don't think I will leave her a neg as she will just reciprocate. I did file a fvf so that out to do it.
