Please forgive the unsolicited posting, but I’m the Series Editor for Rampant TechPress and we are seeking an author for an upcoming 2005 book titled:
“Cash-in with eBay – Secrets of the PowerSellers”.
This book requires an author who is familiar with eBay and willing to interview many successful eBay sellers, consolidate their suggestions, and present their recommendations in a cohesive fashion. You can see details about the book at this link:
http://www.rampant-books.com/book_2005_1_eBay.htm
Rampant TechPress has one of the highest royalty rates in the publishing industry and you can learn about author obligations and compensation here:
Again, forgive my unsolicited posting, but I’d like to hear from any experienced writers with eBay experience who are interested in becoming an author by sending a note to [email protected] .

John: From my corner, the hard facts are that I've learned the long hard way how to sell on Ebay and have been a powerseller a couple of times. (I'm going to sound bitchy here.) I am not interested in helping more hordes make money on Ebay. A friend who's starving? Maybe.

-After reading your propsed outline for this book I noticed you seem to have an obsession with Ebay Millionaires. The only sellers that are doing those kinds of number are retail companies that happen to be using ebay as an additional sales outlet (i.e. - Sears using ebay to sell shelf pulls rather than selling them to surplus companies.)
Everyone has a fictional how to get rich on ebay book. What would be truly unique would be a REALISTIC book about ebay including the pitfalls and the actual amount of effort that needs to be put into research in order to find aany level of success on ebay.

Great idea for a book, one small suggestion---instead of “Cash-in with eBay – Secrets of the PowerSellers”, a realistic title might be --- HOW TO EKE OUT A LIVING ON EBAY IN LESS THAN 24 HOURS A DAY.

Past the curve. Now we need advice on how to go bankrupt because the Credit Cards are maxxed out and the vendor missed a fee change and we now owe a thousand dollars to eBay. But it all doesn't matter because our relative got us NARUed from eBay somehow. Now how about a book on how to contact eBay about some REAL issues?

Its easy to make money on E-Bay being a crook or operating with no conscience, sellers get throw-ed off on a regular basis but that don't mean they were successful. Anyone who has been on E-Bay for several years and had pretty good luck with it is not going to spill their guts to help people come along and cut their throat. Why should they? If anyone wants to truly learn how to make money on E-Bay...the first rule is don't read any books. You'd be better off read this message board for a year. At least its free.

Mr. Lavender has approached this forum with nothing more than a job search. He has to be delighted to read such acrimony. But he will have the last laugh; for someone who is not too busy slinging negatives will probably be applying for the position.
I took a look at that book outline. It's silly. What's more, it betrays a basic cluelessness regarding the science of making money on eBay.
What do I mean? I'll tell you what I mean.
Look at this list of "Key Features":
-Learn how to identify a market niche
-Hear actual quotes from eBay PowerSellers on how they became wealthy
-Learn expert secrets for buying for re-sale on eBay
-Understand how to manage thousands of concurrent auctions
-See the types of items that make high profits on eBay
None of that is relevant. None of it. Because if you don't know how to market, you might as well pick up your marbles and go home.
There isn't a person reading this who would not benefit from stepping away from their computer and buying a good book on marketing. Start with _Marketing for Dummies_. Forget eBay for a moment, just read it cover to cover. If you don't come up with a ton of ideas, you haven't paid attention.
eBay selling is all about marketing. That's all it is. Everything else is just details.

Since when does the Moniker "Power Seller" equal wealth? All a seller has to do to be a power seller is sell $1000 a month, and that's NOT $1000 PROFIT. I'd call that a far cry from wealthy!

I have to agree with most of you, a much more interesting book would be titled how to make a living with ebay, not how to cash in. It's great, but I don't think my work scheduled would be considered cashing in. A lot of people would probably prefer a regular old 9-5 job. Don't get me wrong, I prefer this lifestyle a lot, plus I have the benefit of a spouse that has a job with medical insurance. I put in more than 40 hours a week, a HECK of a lot more than 40. I think you can make a confortable living on ebay, but to net a million in a short period of time, not likely without lots going into that kind of an operation.

I was approached today by a Computer Tech who I have known for sometime. He asked me if I would consider teaching people how to sell on eBay. I told him yeah for $50.00 an hour I would set them up. Tom write a book, No way.

You claim the highest royalty rates in the publishing industry........
$16.95 retail price minus printing costs & expenses.
THEN 15% Net profits split between all of us Ebay millionaires right?
No real ebay millionaire or even full time seller is going to give all of their secrets for the POCKET CHANGE you offer lol.
You want me to reveal what it took 4 1/2 YEARS to figure out so some cheesy moron can be a silver powerseller all for the initial investment of the $16.95 Book price???

Bandwagon Acres!
My real estate agent, clever girl, taught a class in "how to sell on ebay", so she told me.
Sadly, 15 minutes of conversation revealed how little she actually knew! It's easy to sell stuff you paid full retail for, out of the back of your closet!
It's just like those "no money down" schemes. The real money is in selling the scheme to a person who wants a short cut. I know a guy who is living "no money down," and although he's a landowner, he's a far cry from a millionaire.
It's all the same. Worse, people will buy these ebay books thinking they will bypass the learning curve.
Oh well.

I wouldn't bash Amway, since one of the people I admire is Ron Popeil. You know, Ronco and late night television. I used to think Ronco products like the Pocket Fisherman were cheap crap, but I found the Pasta Machine at a garage sale. That is one solid piece of machinery.
The success of Ron Popeil is all about marketing. Products just as good have failed in the marketplace because they weren't marketed properly.
The bashing statement wasn't directed at you. I meant everyone.
Ron Popeil is a perfect example of marketing strategy.
People don't become millionaires selling on ebay. People become independently wealthy by finding something everyone needs, everyday and learning how to market.
Such as: Writing a book about how to become a millionaire selling on ebay!!!!
