Sold a pendant to someone. They emailed me earlier today saying that the stone wasn't seated correctly and when they tried to fix it, the stone popped out. Now, they want a refund. I emailed and told her I would refund her money once I received the pendant back along with the chain and earrings less shipping. This wasn't a big dollar item. Now I'm having second thoughts on telling her that. She's the one that popped the stone out. I looked at my photo again and couldn't see where the stone was seated wrong at all. I also look over the jewelry before I send it out. So far, I haven't heard back from her. Would you have refunded or would you have told her that since she broke it, she bought it?

I'm just curious as to how others handle this type of situation. In her email she made a point of telling me she runs her business with integrity and that judging from my feedback she hopes that I do the same.

I, personally, would have done what you did. I don't think that it is worth all of the hassle over a small ticket item. then again, I don't like to do the confrontation thing.

I would have done the same thing offering a refund is the quick easy resolution. You could contest that she did the damage, send pictures, emails, present your case, etc and next month at this time you could still be bickering by email.

Cheryl,
at least you had an honest bidder...could have said it was damaged in transit. I'd refund if I was you. If shipping costs are too much for your buyer, they may just keep the piece anyway and you won't have to bother. But at least you tried.......

I'd do just what you did with one exception. She needs to include the stone when she returns the set.

I think you were smart to offer the refund IF she returned the items. I'd have done the same thing. Let us know if she takes you up on it anytime soon!

I just heard from her and she is returning it. I probably wouldn't even have asked for that except I can send it back to my supplier for credit. LOL, about the stone! It's nice to have an honest bidder. Yes, she very well could have said it was damaged in transit although it would have been quite hard to pop the stone out during transit. It was in a priority mail box nicely bubble wrapped. Still, if it were me I would have just glued it back into place rather than pay the postage to return it. It was just a piece of costume jewelry after all.

Was it a glued in stone? If so - a little Elmer's and she's good to go!!!
I think you were right as it was just a small amount and you can return anyway. Why waste listing time writing email instead.

Me, I'm a big believer in "You bought it, you broke it, you get to keep it forever."

ESPECIALLY when it comes to jewelry.

Use a little Gorilla Glue and she can just glue the stone to her neck, wear it that way for a few years.
