Ebay is pushing the EBAY store- I can't figure out what the advantage is to having a store-Do you still pay per listing or is it just a monthly fee-? or is it both? Do you have to list a large quantity of items to make it worthwhile?

No: Just the right items!

You pay the monthly fee and 2 cents/MONTH listing fee ( and 1 cent more for a gallery). It probably depends on what you sell - for my two cents the ebay store is the next best thing to FLD..maybe even better.

I pay about $10 per month for ebay's store and then 3 cents each item (including Gallery Picture)to put stuff in it. Over this weekend I sold one item on auction and the lady bought another 8 items out of my store. Some of them were cheap ($2-3) and others were $10 and up. This one lady just paid for my store for a month plus profit. If you use your store wisely, putting some low end stuff in and some high end stuff in, and the promote the heck out of your ebay store it will be worth while. (I use Vendio's gallery to help me do that.) It has paid off for me to have one for the past year but, I can see no advantage for me in having their expensive store. All of this is just one persons opinion. Weigh it out carefully.

Yeah - don't fall for the "featured store" @ $ 49.95 ( not even a good idea at half price) ....it's not going to bring you more sales. I've tried it twice and this last time I cancelled halfway through the first month.

I love the ebay store. I sometimes get my weekly totals just on the store. Auctions drive customers in and they sometimes add on through the store. I've had certain items that I was waiting to strategically place for auctions and while I was monitoring I posted them in the store at a high price and sometimes they sell! In fact, I've taken items out of my own collection that I'm not too keen on selling and have posted them at very high prices and have been surprised more than once. 3 cents to list, and I definitely recommend the gallery for an extra penny per listing, and then you pay a percentage of the closing cost. I believe it's 4.5 percent or so. Ebay offers a 50% credit as well if you send people into your store from outside of ebay like through emails or through your own website.
I love the ebay store. I have a high inventory of one-of-a-kind pieces and running auctions all the time was killing me as well as wasting fees as we all know that the auction flow is so unpredictable these days. It saves me fees in the long run because I get what I want for obscure items and really rock the good stuff through auctions. And meanwhile, my inventory sits on display for people to buy while I don't have to work as hard worrying about it. I don't know for sure how people find your store, but they do. I work hard on driving return business in there through customer relations and such. Well worth the $10.00 monthly fee for the basic store. Try it out and I think you'll be surprised.

Ebay store listings do not show on a regular ebay search unless the search yields less than 10 results and then the store items appear. You do have to almost shamelessly promote your store in your auctions, emails etc. I am still trying to figure out ways to get "referral credit" (half off FVF if people arrive at store in other ways beside eBay and buy).
The ebay store sellers discussion board has many helpful ideas about promoting your store and maximizing for search engines. Most posters there use their real id's and you don't find the nasty stuff that you do in other ebay discussion boards. Here's the link: http://forums.ebay.com/db2/forum.jsp?forum=21.
You can take a lot of time trying to set up the store (ie web design, search engine promotion etc) but I think it's best to just take the plunge and DO IT! STOCK IT! Fine tune it as you have time. The important thing is that you make it easy to navigate (categories etc) and effectively use key words in the titles of store listings and auctions AND of course, promote your store by running auctions with links to your store.
You have to stick with it though - the 30 day trial is not enough time to judge the results. Many recommend making a year's commitment ($120 in store subscription fees).

I'm really close to trying the store myself. Lucy has convinced me it's worth it. She did suggest that, before putting any items into the store, I make sure to categorize them and (I guess) put categories into my store. (I'm not clear yet just how it all works, folks.)

Since June 9, 2004, I've sold about 2600 items in my ebay store. They are mostly low priced items, but they are things that are not going to be profitable through ebay auctions because of the fees, and the way I buy stuff, I am going to end up with items like this. It's a great way to turnover inventory at a low price, and is actually profitable.

Categorizing is essential- to me the cross promotions alone make the store worthwhile. I'm also sure to include a direct link to my ebay store in my auctions because I find that people don't always know to click the link at the top.
HTML is great to customize your store, also, but it is best to just dive in and start stocking. Before you know it, you'll have hundreds of items in inventory and if you're doing high volumes of auctions, you'll be sure to see the sales build up. Sometimes I make special offers to people who win auctions, too, like comping shipping if they buy a couple of extra items or even giving them 10% off when combining purchases. It makes it feel more like a REAL store, which I kind of like. People bookmark your store, too and they come in to shop.

Right after my description in every auction I have a click-able link to my store. Don't rely on the link under your ID in your auctions. I make enough to make it more than worth the fee.

Just TODAY, I tried to "start" an ebay store. I finally got my store "named" and "opened" (even that task took me a few hours! aughh) , but my problem now is that my present 'store' is all 'vendio store' listings, and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to 'transfer' them to ebay Stores!
I got my ebay store 'categories' transferred to my vendio 'account' then went to Inventory and tried to (re)list an 'art' item to 'eBay Stores', and I get an error message that says something like, "you cannot list this item because there is no site information on file for this"
Anyone know what I am doing wrong? I have had a vendio store for years, and want to transfer a couple hundred items into an 'ebay store' instead.
Thanks in advance for any help ... i was thinking of posting a message thread here that said, 'HELLLLLPPPPP!', But I will be patient instead. Is it Miller time? I *am* in the Easter Time Zone ya know. lol
Blessings,
Marcia

LOL Neglus ... i *do* have some messaging going on down there, as well as the ebay Stores Community message board that you recommended ... I'm now conceding to the idea that this might take at LEAST a few days to transfer my vendio store to my ebay store!~? ..... sigh ... i AM too old for this ...
edited to add, neglus, i looked at YOUR store today, in trying to model how to set mine up .... you are one VERY organized seller!!!! I bow to you.

Not sure if this is the same one Neglus did or not. But here is the one I use.
<center><font size=+1><a href="http://ERASE THIS AND PUT PAGE URL HERE">Click here</a>Type your text here</font></center>
Were is says Erase this and put page url here, go into your store and click on the address in the window then copy it. Of course you have to open a store first to have an address. Make sure you don't have the http: in there twice. Then erase where is says to and paste your store "address" there. I think that is how I did it anyway. It's been too long ago...well 4 months. I'm sure if it isn't right someone here will know for sure how to do it.
I have several different description htmls saved in msword and have this in all of them. When I write an auction this is always already in there.

ME ORGANIZED?? LOL Husband is laughing even as I type!
Nah - I just used the regular stuff in the ebay store builder and chose colors to match my Vendio store template. My items kind of categorize themselves. I just scanned two of my postcards and sized them to fit in the logo space. I don't have any bells or whistles or fancy pages but it works for me.
My store sales get better and better - 1/3 of my monthly $ sales now come from the store. The best part of the store is that you can list it and forget (just don't LOSE it <--it's happened to me more than once)

neglus ... by 'just don't lose it' do you mean that if it sells, you need to remove it? ... or rather, do you mean, if it suddenly isn't showing up in your ebay store, you need to go find it and fetch it back to where it belongs?

How are you coming Marcia? I tried to list a Vendio store item and then convert it to ebay store listing...and couldn't figure it out! I know that when I put relisted ebay items in my store I have to edit ONE BY ONE to change the format, add a store term and a gallery....Vendio could make it easier by giving us the capablity of doing this en masse! SIGHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
