This has come up before, but it is now becoming more trouble than it is worth.
Here is the latest from a AOL bonehead.

Stonecold,
I'm at lost with what to do. I've checked everything and still nothing. Of all the transactions I've done through ebay (250+) this is the first with this type of problem. A lot of the times when the auction is over I receive a confirmation that I won with the shipping charges. Or the seller would e-mail me with the shipping charges and address where to send the payment to. Why should yours be so different?
When you e-mailed me twice today did you use my e-mail address or did you go through ebay? It would seem that if you just reply me now with the necessary information it should go through. Do you have any other suggestions?
XXXXXXXXX

You can even tell these people to add your e-mail address to their address list and they still won't do it.

Don't think you are alone. My sweetie cannot email me throught AOL. Ohmslucy who is an acquaintence in the neighboring city can't email me through AOL. I am on Verizon.net & I have checked with them & they tell me it is on the AOL side. The ISP will not delivere to me.

I'm on AOL and I've never failed to receive a notice from Ebay or a customer. Admittedly, a couple have ended up in my spam folder, but I simply click the button that says "This is not spam" and it goes directly into my inbox. The only problem I've ever had is sending an EOA to someone with a Hotmail or Earthlink address. If I don't hear from those customers within 24 hrs, I resend from my Yahoo account and it goes through. Another thing to consider, is if you have a virus, or if your ISP is blocked for harboring spammers, that AOL customer will never see your email. It will be deleted before it can hit their inbox. It takes all of 5 minutes to download AOL IM and install it so you can contact any AOL user through IM instead of email. AOL does have some sophisticated spam filters that are fully customizable by the user and that can be a problem, but it's easily overcome by IM. Sounds like your problem is not with AOL, but with stupid AOL users. Last I heard, it's still illegal to shoot 'em.

Sparkz, I was AOL for over 5 years. When I married, my husband was on Knology and half of his email never made it to me, nor did he get notices saying that his mail had been trashed by the spam filter. Either way it did not make much sense. If I received some of his mail, why would I not receive all of it?

I became so frustrated with AOL. They kept telling me it was a Knology problem. Finally I thanked them for being such buxxoles and I switched to Knology and have been much happier ever since.

Now the only problems I ever have is trying to reach my AOHELL customers. Luckily, if I send invoices thru Ebay, they go thru. If they don't, I report the buyer to Ebay for an invalid email addy and let them deal with it.

Are you freakin nuts. Why on earth would I download anything to do with AOHELL. I finally did get get the info sent to this guy, but only because he was able to give me a non-AOL e-mail addy to send it to.

I wouldn't download the IM either. It isn't our job to chase these people down. I'm dealing with one now. I had to make a long distance phone call and still haven't heard from her. It's angering because I certainly have better things to do.

I have found a simple solution to this problem, which I have quite often with AOL people. One even gave me a neg for not answering her questions.

Now, I simply report them to eBay for having an invalid e-mail on file. If you are a Power Sellers it is best to go through the Power Seller portal. eBay will respond faster. This way eBay gets to make the phone call. I refuse to pay for a phone call that will cost me more than the item they bought. And I too don't feel like it's my place to track them down. They know they bought the item, they know they have AOL and those spam filters. If they don't receive my e-mail, they should contact me. Anyway, I reported the last one late one night. The next morning I had an e-mail from her apologizing and a PayPal payment. She said she had reported the e-mail problem to eBay and they were working on it. Like I didn't know that eBay had reported the problem to her.

I also filled out a survey for eBay the other day. That was one of my complaints. That they should address the problem with AOL bidders. I also tried to remember all the complaints that I had read in here and added them. Hope it helps.

Hi all,

Emails from Sanmar DO reach me but the other day he didn't get my reply. From what he wrote, it looks like I'm not the only AOL sender whose messages are being blocked by Verizon.

I'm trying to figure out if it's Verizon or Sanmar. (Maybe he put me on his spam list! ) If it is indeed Verizon it could interfere with bidders receiving my eBay messages.

If there's someone here who also uses Verizon, could you please send me a question for seller email?

Thanks,

Lucy

Classic, only tried the chats when I was a newbie. Took me all of 2 weeks to quit that!

Turned off IM's also. It was just too freaky to get im'd by some web lizards with nothing better to do than checkout your profile and ask for a date. YUK!

I even deleted my profile. Strangers would contact me just because I lived at Panama City Beach.

Haven't used IM or ICQ in years.

AOL is a proprietary/predatory program, and if one isn’t careful, it will take over many areas of your computer, even if you are running other systems. I had the IM, but it caused so much interference, that we had to totally delete, remove, and clear it out of my computer. No more IM, no more computer issues.

My husband’s old ISP that he has used for 12 years was sold to a new company and the service is now awful, so he downloaded and tested AOL as a substitute to see if he wanted it to replace his old ISP with AOL. In a week or so he had so many AOL created problems and issues with his computer, he junked AOL, cleaned out his computer, and that ended the problems. My husband is a computer tech/geek/and Master Web Master.

On a normal basis I haven’t had much trouble getting through to AOL people, but I do from time to time. It seems those I have problems with are totally oblivious of the problem issues with mail going to AOL.

Personally, and professionally, I use Earthlink, and have been extremely satisfied with it.

I agree with the other poster who said, it is NOT our job to run down these AOL people, call them, search for them, or for us to carry an extra outgoing ISP address to try to get through to them.

I have had 2 Earthlink people who have had their computers set to only accept e-mail from those they know, and you have to have “Permission” to e-mail them, that is as bad as the AOL stuff, I just ignore them when my e-mail bounces, as my ads have all the information they need to pay.
