I've looked and looked besides Yowcow.com, is there any other payment system that even compares to Paypal? That's dependable and inexpensive?

There are a few, but offhand I can't even name any of them.

Western Union money order is one alternative, but it is pricey for payers and it take a few days for the money orders to go through the mail.

I think there is a similar PayPal-type service in Europe, but doubt many US sellers are using it.

There is Yahoo Wallet, but I think that is just for Yahoo merchants.

You can always contact the customer, give them your name and address along with the total due and tell them to send you a check. This method has been field tested for 200 years, and seems to be one of the most reliable. The fee is only 37 cents, and that's payable by the customer.

What in hades is Yowcow? You can always limit your payment to Money Orders, Cashiers Checks, & Bidpay. PayPal will get this problem fixed in a day or so & everything will be back to normal.

I signed up for Yowcow, but just asked them to cancel/close the account. Not satisfied with the amount of time it takes them to respond to questions and their copy/paste logo steps are too involved.

Yahoo wallet is for yahoo shoppers to save their cc info.
Yahoo paydirect and AOL direct are for payments, but i dont know too many people who use them on ebay.
If you dont like paypal,i would say personal check is the best.

Even if there were “alternatives” to PayPal, the problem is the SELLER needs to take/accept what MOST buyers use, and unfortunately that is PayPal or Credit Cards. I would think that 98% of Buyers aren’t going to want an item enough to join some unknown on line payment company, and/or they would just consider it too much trouble.

The only solution to NO PAYPAL, to me is that you have your own MERCHANT ACCOUNT.

Buyers, I would think, would prefer to pay via a credit card of some type, which provides them a 3rd party safety factor. In my opinion, checks take too much time, too much keeping up on which one has cleared, etc., and are just a pain in the derrière.

Personally, I prefer to take credit cards or PayPal, as those transactions are provable on each side, traceable, fast, and then done. Money Orders, and checks take time, waiting, and can get lost in the mail, and then there are the endless e-mails about where is my item, when the Seller never received the check or Money Order because it was either miss addressed or the USPS sent it to Paris, France, instead of Paris, Texas.

many bidders do not feel comfortable forking over cc data to individual sellers on ebay, how do they know if you are not going to use it to go shopping elsewhere or sell the data to someone who will use it elsewhere.
also if they buy a lot from diff sellers,it is too much work for them .
add your paypal fee to your shipping and handling.

About 40% of my buyers pay with their credit card and that number is growing. I think that accepting credit cards helped my busines..

jwpc said it perfectly, it doesn't matter what you want to take, it is what the buyer wants to use. I know the age old debate of whether paypal affects your business, and there are people on both sides of the issue. My instinct is that not accepting it will limit purchases, as some people will only use paypal. I know that when I bid, if it is an auction that does not take paypal, I am MUCH less likely to bid on the item. I'll admit I've made a few impulse bids or purchases because they accept paypal and I could pay right away.

Ditto to EVet. 95% of my buyers use PP and I shop the PP sellers myself.
