I have a personal Paypal account. As I sell from Canada, I am charged extra fees, plus a fee to withdraw my money, and about 3 cents below the going exchange rate, so I just can't afford to pay any extra charges in a business account.
I just had a payment that is called an "Instant payment" and I have to accept or deny it. I never have to do that unless someone pays by a credit or debit card, but then there is a message to say that I can only accept it if I upgrade to a business account, but this doesn't say anything about that. I am very nervous of clicking the "accept" button in case I am then upgraded to a business account, so I don't know what to do.
Could someone please explain what an instant payment is?

The only time I get an (accept) notice.
Is when the Address is not verified or confirmed.

It is just a payment that you can choose to to accept or not. I think it is according to your own acceptance preferences. Sender may be a new PayPal user with a small amount of payments made.

Does it say "unconfirmed address?" It should also say if you ship to an unconfirmed addy, there will be no seller protection. This is the only thing I have seen. If it is a small amount (less than $20.000) I ususally ship it insured, so I am covered either way.

No, the address is confirmed. I don't understand why I have to accept it or deny it, I never have to do that unless someone uses a credit card by mistake. If I click on the "accept" button, it might upgrade me to a business account, and I don't want that. Maybe I should call Paypal. They are probably only taking calls during the week, right?

I too am a Canadian and find when they ask you to accept or deny payment it is best to deny as you will be upgraded to a business account. Sometimes when you check the payment information on their site it will say how they pay. Instant payment can mean debit card and that means an upgrade.

Yup,you click that button and YOU will be INSATANTLY UpGraded. There are no more questions like, Are you SURE you want to do this? Unlike most OTHER things you do on the internet. Click and they GRAB you,,,,You HAVE reached your personal account max. If you DON'T upgrade you will be explaining your life away to EVERY future payment. Fluffy had a tail to tell about how she circumvented it. I fogot now, I once tried the reversing it, once you were upgraded they give you a ONE time option to do tthe reversing thing...It was an EVEN BIGGER night matter of explaining to EVERY customer.....Live with it,,,OR live without pay pal. Just they way they have it Planned and ya just can't Beat them.....

You use their service to collect and move money for you.
You probably use their debit card and get money back from them.
You piss and moan when they have a problem.
But you don't think they are entitled to make a couple dollars.
