I hate to beat a dead topic, so maybe someone could refer me to an older post on this. I did find some posts on sellers not getting much feedback, but they've also mentioned that they don't post feedback until the buyer posts for them first. And I guess the buyer won't post until the seller does, so nobody gets feedback.

I've always posted postive feedback as soon as I get payment, and still only got about 50% of the people giving me feedback. I know it's kinf of risky, they can hold you for feedback hostage and threaten with a negative, and there's nothing you can do if you already posted them a postitive.

As a buyer I always post feedback as soon as I get the item and I'm satisfied with it. Most of the time the seller will give me postive if they hadn't already.

I've got a bunch of auctions ending tonight and over the next three days (haven't had any auctions for quite a while). Just wondering if I should start the precedent by posting or not posting feedback when I receive payment (or at least send them a confirmation email)?

If anyone could direct me to any other previous posts on this topic and/or type out your opinion here, I'd be most grateful.

I never leave feedback until the buyer leaves it for me, I have been bitten too often. I had someone win a BIN auction today, and when I looked, she had -1 feedback. I checked her feedback and found that she had 7 transactions, but she had been leaving neutral feedbacks with positive comments. I wrote and explained to her why that was a mistake, and because of it, sellers had left her negs. in retaliation. She really appreciated it, and had no idea what she had done wrong. I have to admit, she was not the brightest buyer I have dealt with, sent payment without postage, and then wrote and said she thought she was buying a coat, rather than a book of coat knitting patterns.

I only receive feedback from a seller when they know their product.
i.e., it is new, described completely, S/H within limits.

If I buy a collectible then the seller waits for my feedback.

I do the same as a seller. Since I sell vintage items then if my description and the buyers viewing the product are different then it has to be discussed. I as the seller could have overlooked something so leaving feedback first would not be good as it can't be taken back.

I wonder if I waited four or six weeks and then posted feedback. I'm sure if there was a problem I'd have heard about it. Then anyone who was holding out on giving me a feedback would finally do it (hopefully positive). What do you think?

I just fear that I'll get hardly any feedback, as it is, I only get about 50% of the people leaving me feedback and up till now I've always posted it as soon as I got the payment. Sometimes I don't post anything if I feel the other person didn't deserve a postive, but a neg or neutral was too harsh, or feared retaliatory negative feedback.

I used to post feedback first but got bit in the butt to many times so now I leave it second. If they don't leave any for me...so be it.

This is truly a can of worms, and I won't try to defend my leaving feedback when I receive payment from a buyer (now I hold back on the iffy-sounding ones until I hear from them, though).

When I've left feedback and am getting ready to ship, I send an e-mail to thank the buyer, tell him I've left +feedback for him, item is coming soon, etc.

My packing slip also thanks the buyer for his purchase, reminds him that I've left feedback and hope he'll let me know when the package arrives safely. Many of them, now, don't send a separate e-mail saying the package has come but choose to leave feedback at that time, which tells me it arrived.

A couple of gentle reminders like this can't hurt. Still, you'll never get FB from all your buyers and sellers. Just won't happen.

I used to always post positive feedback as soon as I got the payment for three reasons:

1. I knew which auctions had been paid for and which weren't

2. I was using Auctionworks (Marketworks) and it was set up to post postive feedback when I marked an item sent and would also send a thank you email.

3. I wanted to get as much feedback as I could, and I figured the buyer held to his or her end of the bargain by making the payment. Chances were better I'd get feedback if I posted one for the buyer first.

But I hear what you other folks are saying. You never know when you might get stung. I'm still torn on which method to use, I know I won't get as much feedback if I don't post first. Never (but almost a few times) had a problem with it that way though.

This time of year is a bad time of year to leave feedback when you get payment. There are too many new bidders that do not understand how things work, don't read the auction and then don't agree with the terms. For instance I had a buyer who paid for an item the week of Christmas, I offered priority and express shipping. She chose priority. She had not received her package as of Christmas Eve and demanded her money back within 24 hrs or she would leave negative feedback. People are less tolerate around the holidays. I think you will still get 50% of your feedback because people want theirs also. If there is a problem with something they are more likely to contact you to work something out before leaving negative feedback.

You are doing the right thing by posting feedback as soon as you receive payment. It is all of the other losers here that don't properly post feedback when they should. It is the same losers that complain that the feedback system is screwed up when they are the biggest abusers of the system. They try to justify it as protecting their own feedbacks when they are really extorting the feedback system themselves.

I always leave feedback upon payment and can count the times I received a retalitory neg on less than one hand. And if you properly respond, they never hurt you, but yet warn other sellers of the deadbeats in advance.

One thing you should keep in mind is that you can expect 60% feedback in return once you leave it. I have two selling ID's and know a few other sellers personally and when you check the feedback left to the feedback received ratio, they all end up within a percentage point or two of 60%. So at 50%, you are in the ball park.

Power,
Keep up the proper feedback procedure and being a great seller.
