I finally feel ready to buy a diamond tester. I know I want it to be portable and to test for cz and moissanite. Any opinion on what brand I should get?

I'm available. I'm VERY reliable, constantly verifying my good taste when shopping. Very portable, willing to shop East coast, West Coast, Riviera, Paris or Madrid.

Easily recharged, just make sure the spending balance on the CC's never falls below 20K and I can do high grade testing foever.

PS, daily transaction limit must be $10K or above <g>

CZs and moissanite do not even exist in my universe, muchless register on my scale.

I have one. At flea markets, wholesale shops etc. I wouldn't have been without it. I have had it for a long time. the rechargable battery finally died. Now it will only work if I have it plugged into the wall. Someday I have to find the time to try tearing it apart and replacing the battery.

Tom, Yep, that's the one I have but an older model. It looks identical to the one I have except for the decal on the front. Mine came with a genuine leatheite carrying case (grin) and a wall plug. The problem is that the two sides are glued together with I don't know what . . . Elephant glue ot something? I tried many times to take it apart gently but it just won't give. I guess it's time to do give it a try again.

Except it does not test for CZ.

Go to Ganoksin or GIA and read what they say.
The Rio Grande catalog has some, so does Otto Frei and those folks.

Not to dis Tom in any way.

Yo! Japes!

Where do ye read that?

http://www.theriver.com/mineralab/DiamondNite.htm

"DiamondNite is the first and only one step dual tester for non-diamond such as cubic zirconia, artificial moissanite, or genuine diamond. Just touch the probe to the stone - no beep means it is a CZ or other fake..."

Tom, it looks to me like the Mizar Diamond Detective does the same thing for about $100 less.

If it isn't a diamond, is there any reason to know if it is moissanite or a cz? I am not being a wise guy, but isn't a fake just a fake? If you have a machine that indicates it isn't a diamond, isn't that enough? Or are moissanites valuable on the secondary market?

Kasue, the Mizer auctions don't say anything about detecting moissanite.

The moissanite takes a special detector .

Hmmm. It looks like everyone selling the DiamondNite wants the same price. No deals on them at all. I thought I would get a better deal on Ebay. I guess I will have to search the 'net.

No, not yet! But it is silly that every vendor on Ebay has the same price on them. Wouldn't you think if you were cheaper you would sell more? I think you would make it up in no time by increased volume of sales. Sorry, it is just the long time dealer mentality. I never pay full price if I can help it. And I mean to help it! Sorry, Ralphie! Pet, pet, scratch scratch!

Kasue, IF you had not ticked off Ralphie, he probably would have thrown you a bone, but now...

Hey Tomwii, how come your store doesn't show up when I do a search for Mizar DiamondNite?

The only BONE I can throw on this item is: FREE SHIPPING, which many here can attest to -- some of my items I can really offer GREAT DISCOUNTS for Ralphie's friends, but some items are just "fillers" for our STORE & we donna really have much leeway

IN ANSWER: "good question!"
