it was mandatory for ALL when e bay threatened us to Change our Id's from e mail addresses to something without an e mail address. I just ran across a seller with a .com id. did'nt e bay say if WE did not do it E bay would just assign us some number.
Oh, and all that was in the name of PROTECTING us......

Becoming a bit of an expert in the topic -- not by choice though.
As I have heard from eBay's T&S Dept. those who had a .com prior to late 2002 are "grandfathered in" and can maintain that user name.
I'm doing my level best to report those who don't comply though -- All it takes is a simple form off of eBay and mentioning that they are not in compliance. They get a nasty-gram from eBay and have 24 hours to change it or eBay will change it for them and they won't like the name they get. The big thing is that once it's changed, they can't change it again for 30 days. So, they could get stuck with "User42142" instead of their .com name....
Here's the link if you want to poke at those who are skating by - unlike those who followed the directions:
Select "Problem with Seller" and "Problem is not listed" at the bottom of the lower window.
I'm just trying to exact some punishment out of frustration that we had our name without the "dot" for about 2 years and no one complained. Had a nasty buyer I'm sure is the source of a complaint, and had to drop the "m" from "com" to comply.
I'm sure I'll calm down soon, but until then -- the .com or _com folks better watch out!
