I had a customer order a store item (as a special request) on 4/2 and now I've got a chargeback notice today, 4/6. I was going to ship the item today to her confirmed address but now I'm wondering what to do? Should I refund her payment through Paypal, block her ID, and call it a day (and not ship!!!)?

I've only had one other chargeback filed (the day after payment was received) and it was dismissed once the DC showed delivery so this is a bit odd to me.

I don't even know what today is ...duh!

If you still have the item, I would simply not ship, file a npb (and not the nice one either!) and block and move on.

Paypal sent me this notice:

2. The name and address given to you by the buyer.
3. Whether or not the purchase has been shipped. (If you have not yet sent
the purchase, please do not proceed with the exchange.)
4. If already shipped, please provide the company used, date of shipment,
and tracking number, so that PayPal can verify the shipment and delivery
online. (For transactions of $250.00 USD or more, you must provide a

I guess I answered my own question with item #3. I was unable to refund the payment so I'm assuming I wait for the $10.00 chargeback fee from Paypal to come down, along with the surrender of the payment amount. At least I'm not out my item and the money.

from the paypal email,it sounds like your bidder paid you with fraudulant BANK fund, not credit card.
Chargeback is a term used for credit card only .
You would not be keeping that fund long, paypal will take it back from you and there is no chargeback fee of 10 dollars .

Wendy,

I would not ship the item until PayPal clears the payment. Will probably take them about 10 days to determine if the account is valid or not.

In the mean time, notify the buyer and forward the announcement to them. Tell them you can not ship their item until you have been notified by PP that their account is ok. I would give them a chance to send a money order, but no way would I accept a personal check! [grin]

Paypal has already yanked the funds and put them in a mysterious holding cell in cyberspace.

DO NOT SHIP THE PACKAGE !

The payment didn't become assumed fraudulent the BIDDER REPORTED IT TO THEIR BANK.

Banks act a lot quicker than credit cards. Credit cards have a he said/she said and an investigation. Banks just pull the funds and ask questions maybe later.

I have seen this a few times. IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN A BIDDER TYING TO PULL A SCAM

You bidder ASSUMED the package had already been shipped....... and they tried to pull a fast one on you.

FILE NON PAYING BIDDER NOW!!

Unless you get an immediate email begging you for forgiveness and offering to pay you then you know you caught them in a scam.

There is no way a bank can pull fund out of paypal bank account.(her paypal account is part of paypal account, only paypal keeps records of its individual member accounts)

Scam, scam, scam!!! DO NOT ship that item. You are dealing with a deadbeat or someone who has hijacked a Paypal account. The actual wording in the email from Paypal in which they state " We regret to inform you that you received funds from an account with
reports of fraudulent bank account use." would be enough for me to forward the email and their name and address to the police department in their city. BTW, did I mention that it sounds like a scam?

Thank you everyone! Paypal has already extracted the money from my account and I'm not counting on getting it back at this point.

I thought it was suspicious that I mentioned that I would try to ship on 4/5 and suddenly get a notice on 4/6. She probably thought I had already shipped and was going to get herself a refund and the item. Thank you goodness for my running behind!

I don't even want to spend the time emailing her about it...I'm sure she knows the whole scenario already and is just waiting for her mail to come in.

I'm sure I'll get a neg. from the experience but I'll wear it with a badge on honor~the first for me in 2000 uniques!

wendywins,

Do file a Non Paying Bidder notice with eBay and mention the word FRAUD. You could also phone their local Police Dept. and enquire if they are on parole or have any warrants outstanding, as they may have violated interstate banking and mail fraud laws by their clumsy attempt at fraud. I've always found police most helpful in fraud cases as they are usually a matter of simply "following the money"...
