I purchased a piece of jewelry today and it has the number 750 on the medallion, necklace and clasp. All three are marked that. I don't think it is an American piece but a piece from Egypt as it is King Tut on one side and Nefertiti on the other side. Any help would be appreciated. I tried to take a picture of the mark but I can't seem to get it big enough. The piece is quite nice and there is no pitting of the gold on the medallion. I am going to try again now that my battery is recharged.
Thanks in advance.

Libra
.750 = 750 parts out of 1000 fine gold.
In other words, 18k gold.
18k= .750
24k= .999
18k is a nice gold; you should notice the pieces have a decent heft, relative to their size, if you've had a little practice hefting rings, chains, etc. as a quick test.
I'd still get the items content tested as tourists sometimes bring back items they bought (overseas) as solid gold. Once they get back home though, and have worn their jewelry for awhile, or get the item(s) checked out, then they realize they got taken and only have gold-plated trinkets to show for their $.
Any reputable jewelry store or pawn shop will usually do a free, quick content test for you.

Thanks. The spring clasp says only 750. When I can find my very good magnifying glass i can read the rest. What makes me think this is good is that the ring that holds the medallion on has no ending. The mediallion has not pitting and it is bright and shinny. OK I found it. The ring on the necklace says GB, inside of a banner
13VI in a box and 750 in a box. The other I can't read. We have no pawn shops in town.
So I will have to find someone that can tell me.

It is the size of a silver dollar. The outer edge is a bright gold. Around her is a flat gold and she is a matte gold. There is no pitting to the gold. this probably doesn't help but I am hoping someone will recognize the piece. I am a fan of Nefertiti so I will wear it until I find something out.

It's sounding better, I've definitely seen 750 in a box used as a mark before. I'm generally happier with an item when I see multiple individual hardware pieces also marked for gold content. I'm not sure how someone would recognize this piece though? There must be 1000's of gold manufacturers in North America alone, each with their own jewelry line and maker's marks.
If fluffy were still here (is she still chatting somewhere at all?) she might be able to add more. Maybe there's another resident jewelry expert here? I only know what I've picked up here & there.
If they're real, should eventually get more than a few bux as the medallion alone looks rather atractive.

Libra...The 750 mark is actually a registration number with the Internation Historical And Verification Education branch of the Precious Metal Society, aka IHAVEPMS. The number is registered to me. It means return to Sparkz"s wife ASAP. This can be verified at their website www.ihavepms.com

Doesn't gold sold in Egypt have their content marked in Arabic? I have one of those seal type pendents with 2 embossed ancient Egyptian figures ( the top one is a pharoah) and I find a small stamp with what looks like arabic letters. I think it tested out to 14K but I did it so long ago, I cannot recall.

Gold jewelry made in Egypt for local consumption by small time craftsmen would probably have the content in Arabic. But if they intend to export it to England, or just about any country where the Union Jack has been flown, it will be marked in English. Not because they want to, but because of various laws and to facilitate separating that English gent or Lady from their pounds sterling.

This has only one stamp and it is on the jump ring that holds the pendant. the jump ring is solid. There is something printed on that besides the 750. On the chain the spring clasp is only marked 720 but the other end has something else, which i can't read but it looks english. It is really small and also has the number 750. I am going to have to find someone to test it for me or that has a more powerful eye glass. I thought mine was good until I tried to read this. If you notice the chain it is very unique. Both ends are secured to the chain and can't come off unless you break it.

sparkz - The item I have could not exactly be called for local comsumption. It is one of those pendents sold to tourists that purport to show one's name in hieroglyphics, I believe. I have seen them listed on Ebay in 18K and some in sterling. This one was probably purchased in Egypt by a tourist.

Buyhigh...I should clarify...Local consumption means the entire Arabic speaking world, IOW the middle east. There are some high quality items, and I'm not talking just about jewelry, that are marketed locally in that region. Our $3.00 per gallon gasoline (yep, it's that high in a few places in California) helps them pay for it. If they want to go where the big bucks are, and it's much easier to market, such as London or Hong Kong, they will be marked in accordance with British laws, which are very strict but are thoroughly familiar to their prospective markets. You might want to check with some of your local convenience stores or a community college and see if you can locate an Arabic immigrant or student. They can be a Godsend if you need help identifying something from that part of the world. A friend of mine at a local liquor store provided me with the information and interpretation on an Islamic prayer rug that allowed me to list it in the proper category. It resulted in a $330.00 sale compared to a possible $10.00 sale if I had done it the way I originally intended.

You are very smart to have it tested. If you can, get the results in writing. There is a lot of jewelry out there falsely marked.
Our $3.00 per gallon gasoline
Last Thursday out gasoline was $2.35. On Friday, it was $1.99 most places. Some had it even less. What it is today, I have no idea yet, but that kind of fluctuation tells me that something wicked this way comes.

There really isn't anybody in our city that will do a test and give you a statement. We don't have a pawn shop and the jewelry stores are pretty tight about giving information away. I have no idea why. If I owned a store I would do it. I think they call that customer service. Population of Kenosha is over 85,000.

Lowest price for gas here $2.49.9 per gallon regular and only at a couple stations within a 10 mile radius. Filled up at one for $2.51.9 and felt fortunate. Guess where I live?

Libra...it is almost certainly solid 18k gold. It's not Arabic. The other mark it has signifies Italian made. It's a relatively common pendant. They can be purchased by any jeweler from a stock catalog. You can find them in Peoria as easily as Alexandria.
