Think 1/4 or more of my hits turn into watchers and I wind up with one bid placed the first or 2nd day of the listing. These are for collectable items that I don't see even in the completed auctions. Wonder if watchers are using the feature to compile reference lists for the future.

"Wonder if watchers are using the feature to compile reference lists for the future."

-------

Well, it would only show the listings for a short while before they fall of their 'list'...

Which brings me to that "other" thing that I keep harping about; i.e., wish eBay would institute, for buyers, a "place my proxy bid now", ... OR ... "snipe my proxy bid during last minute of auction"... (that way, they don't have to tip their cards early}

Win, win situation for sellers and ebay.

I had some great depression glass going the past week, where two newbie bidders came out and told me they planned on bidding on six or seven more pieces, so they wanted to hold off on getting an invoice .... neither of them bid the last day, but one of them said to us, after the auctions had closed, they really did plan on bidding, but their computer was down while those were ending ...

I also often get the "I missed the ending of your auction number ____; would you sell it to me or let me know when you relist because i wanted to bid on it?" ...

It drives me crazy.

I liked ebay much, much better before they had the watchlist feature.

Back then, if the price was right, you could actually expect bids very soon after a listing was placed.

Now, you start a good item at 1 cent and just hope to get watchers, and hopefully some bids during the last day of the auction.

Personally I put things that I am interested in on my watch list and then snipe at the end if the price is still right. I think it just depends on the items you are selling. When it comes to the items I sell, most of the time I get no bids until the last two hours. In the meantime I just collect watchers. I know the game so it really doesn't bother me.

No, I'm saying -- I'm merely -- I'm saying what I'm saying. I don't know why I'm always having people say, are you trying to say -- you know what you can do if you want to know what I'm saying is listen to what I'm saying. What I'm saying is what I said ...

But what I cannot figure out is - Why do I get all those watchers on these items ( most under $10 ) after the first bid is placed if they don't bid at the final closing hours?

My guess is that they plan to bid, but don't log on in time or just forget to bid.

Its crazy how people are willing to spend the time to put low priced items on their watchlist.

yep... that's why we think ebay should introduce "place my bid now" or "snipe my bid at end".

Think there is a place on the right beside the watched item on MY EBAY that says "Place Bid" or "Bid Now" or words to that effect. Doubt they will provide a snipe option ever.

UNLESS, they get enough requests for it in their suggestion box!

.... we get 'emails to seller' every week saying things like, "I meant to bid at end, but my computer was down {or I was away, or stuck in traffic etc.} or, "I see this ended with no bid, please sell to me or let me know when you relist, ... OR, - THIS week I got two people that said, "I'm going to bid on your other 7 depression glass items, so please don't invoice me yet"... then that day/time came, and they weren't there.

They COULD'VE been there if they could have that "option" to 'snipe bid during last minute of auction'! ....

I've suggested it at least a few times in the past year, BECAUSE this happens all the time. ebay started a canned response to me about how proxy bidding works just the same, and I told them 'argh! you don't have to explain to ME how proxy bidding works; i've been on ebay since before it was named ebay' ... Proxy bidding does NOT work the same as offering a 'snipe' option; most minutely savvy ebay bidders don't WANT to bid till the end, to not 'tip their cards' to show interest in the item early. But so MANY of them come back to the sellers wishing they had been there during the last minutes of the auction ....

Use that 'suggestion' box for ebay ... they DO make changes, {quite frequently! lol} ...
and don't say ebay will never adopt a snipe option ... it *could* happen ...

off my 'snipe please' soapbox {for a month or two; then I'll "suggest" again} ...

I am surprised at the number of watches I get in my e-bay store. Maybe they hope I will post other items they want so they can save on shipping.
