I received a pamphlet in the mail tiday telling about ProStores. Has anyone used it or is this something relatively new? What is the difference between this & eBay stores?

It is ebays way of double dipping on the cost of their store programming. Prostores are freestanding stores not related to ebay. It think the FVF on items is 1%, (I forget but I don't have the energy to go search it down right now).

We all talk about the importance of having a source of income that does not rely on ebay and this is a good way to gt one started with a relatively simple shopping cart, numerous options and a familiar feel.

No, I'm saying -- I'm merely -- I'm saying what I'm saying. I don't know why I'm always having people say, are you trying to say -- you know what you can do if you want to know what I'm saying is listen to what I'm saying. What I'm saying is what I said ...

For a one time fee (about $160) you can purchase shopping cart software from ecommercetemplates and have all the reporting tools and management tools you need as well. Hosting at GoDaddy is $9.95 per month. Why pay the high monthly rate and closing fees when you can pay $9.95 per month for your own store? I guess I don't get the attraction.

Because I hate trying to figure out shopping carts. I still have the last one I bought on my computer and delve into it when I am feeling especially masochistic...I think it hates me.
It's kind of like "why use a listing service when you could just do it yourself?" It makes your life easier and frees up more time for other projects. Thats worth a few extra bucks any day.

There's been lots of discussion over on eBay's own boards about this. The general sway of concensus says:

A) Only the more expensive version has inventory features, so the two lower end options are worthless if you have more than just a few items.

B) Prostores is an eBay company. If you want to expand away from the eBay mindset (higher fees, VERO, odd rules) avoid them. eBay is pretty much hands-off with Prostores now, but they could change that at any time.

C) There are cheaper, more flexible alternatives available, but this isn't the place to discuss them.
