There's a high pressure system northwest of the track. If it weakens, Irene will head north and miss the coastal U.S. If it strengthens, North Carolina will take a hit. They were giving 50-50 odds late last night. It's expected to reach category 1 or 2 hurricane strength before it hits land.

While y'awl are busy putting your lips together, please make sure that no nasty weather hits Saint Martin (FWI) between Aug 20 and Sep 4. Thanks in advance

You are quite brave to head that way during hurricane season. I am very worried about you going, so worried for your safety that I will be happy to go in your place!

We'be been going there at the end of August (and also during the kids' winter break) for a few years now. A couple of time we left just as a storm was anticipated to arrive, but (knock wood) we've had great times there even in August. It is less expensive in August (2+ weeks cost about the same as 7-10 days in February), and the water is just a degree below the point at which it wouldn't be refreshing
If the day comes when I get bored there, I'll send you an email and let you have my seat on the plane
