Up pops this little gem. It's in the very early stages and there is a great deal of uncertainty about its track, but those of you on the east coast may want to keep an eye on it. This map will update every 6 hours at 11:00 and 5:00 EDT:

Niel35...There are so many people from Florida who post on this board, I figured it would be a good idea to give a heads up on these things. The first thing that comes to mind, aside from the danger and possible destruction, is the possibility of a massive electrical or communications failure that could severly disrupt a person's business. It doesn't hurt to have a friend or relative in Kansas or somewhere else that could pick up the ball in communicating with customers if such were to happen. Besides, Tom doesn't drive, so I want to give him and Ralphie a head start on planning their exit strategy if one of these monsters decides to visit JAX. Now, If I could just figure out how to give my neighbors a heads up about an approaching earthquake, it would make my day

TD-10 has fizzled for now, but could reach TD status later. Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Irene, which tried to fizzle, has been upgraded to a hurricane and is off the coast of New England, although headed away. Obviously, these are female storms. In spite of what NWS predicts, they'll do as they damn well please. Here's a pic of Irene:

The remnants of TD10 will be moving into warmer waters tomorrow where there is a chance it could reform into a TD once again. From there, it could rapidly reach Tropical Storm status, and eventually hurricane status. What has the forecasters worried, is that this is an almost identical clone of hurricane Andrew, which fizzled in the beginning and redeveloped into one of the most destructive hurricanes in U.S. history. Those of you on the east coast may want to keep an eye on this one.

McJane...It's a little south of Cuba right now, picking up speed and still kicking. We should know by Sunday evening what's going to happen with it. It's just now entering warm water where it will have a chance to intensify. Right now, the NWS is tracking several waves en route from Africa. They are expecting a minimum of 8 of these to develop into named storms in the next 30 days.

Here's a picture of it. It's a little SE of the southern tip of Cuba. It stalled for awhile but it's picking up a little steam now. Pay particular attention to the circle at 20N, 65w. That is the forming of the "Eye" in the very early stages.

McJane...TD 10 combined with another disturbance and has built into TD12. There's an interesting story behind why they gave it a new name instead of bringing it back as TD10. This one will be a tropical storm soon and has a chance to gain hurricane strength before landfall. It's going to miss you, but it's looking a little dicey for those in south Florida and Miss.- La.

I was waiting for you come thru Sparky my Weatherman. We had rain this afternoon but needed it. Hope "Katrina" fizzles out before any strengthening. It should go north of Miami, but we will get some of it
tnx for the updates

This map reflects the NWS projected path which shows it hitting Florida as a tropical storm and emerging into the gulf to gain hurricane status and head towards La. AccuWeather on the other hand shows it going north when it hits Florida and travelling all the way up the east coast, losing strength and becoming a pleasant rainstorm by the time it reaches McJane. We'll see who guessed right this weekend.

Oh, nuts ... That's too close for comfort for me ... I'm right there. I better watch the news tonight (even though I deliberately avoid it).

Bizzy...That's the reason I made the post. I think half the posters on EO are in Florida. This one popped up quite suddenly and even caught the NHC by surprise.
