This is the first tile in almost 8 years that the PO has lost a package of mine. I mailed on 9/3/05, the buyer waited 3 weeks to tell me he hadn't received the items. I had sent it by Priority Mail with DC. I went into PayPal & checked on delivery status, it showed time & date of pickup, no date of delivery. I went to local PO & they tried to trace it with no luck. They then called the PO in Iowa City, IA. They have no record of it so now its gone to the PO Inspectors division. Oh Boy, what a mess.

I just had that happen to me. It's like the package just disappeared off the face of the earth. Most likely some thieves at the main post office. Mine shows a label created and then nothing. I finally had to refund the buyer. Mine was also sent Priority mail. Could it me that the PO has hired some less than honest people who are aware that most packages from eBay are mailed in this manner?

Most of mine vanishes around Christmas. I used to be amazed at the number of T-Shirts and Sweatshirts that were never seen again. One reason I backed off of selling them. And those Fake driver License, nobody ever got those. So I don't sell those period.

I've been lucky (knocking wood). Of the few that SAID they didn't get their packages, delivery confirmation showed that it was delivered. Once I pointed this out, I never heard from them again.

lol bizzy I get them too every once in a while...I give them a out by saying your tracking number shows it was delivered on blah blah date at blah blah time...you might check with your kids or spouse to see if they have stuck it somewhere without telling you it arrived. I always get a e-mail back saying something like my wife stuck it in the closet and I didn't know it had arrived or it was sitting at the front door...thanks.
Priority is moving really slow these last 2 -3 weeks. It may have something to do with all hurricanes and backed up mail that can't be delivered to areas under water or re-routing them to new addresses. I had a package of scrap gold (153.00) not showing up on delivery status. From SC to Fla .It took 8 days to get there Priority. I could have drove there and back 8 times lol ...and it wasn't showing I even mailed it,was starting to really worry

If it was not insured and the delivery confirmation shows it was lost in transit - will the Post Office reimburse you for anything?

Sanmar...I believe Katrina destroyed several Postal facilities in the south, including a major hub in N.O. There has been literally tons of mail and packages diverted to other facilities in the south and midwest for processing, storage, etc. This has placed a major strain on the system, and your package is probably in a warehouse somewhere in the midwest. It will probably turn up later when they restore some semblance of order to the system. I have had 1 payment from N.C. that got lost about that time. She sent a check later and it came through in 3 days. I am waiting on another from S.C. The customer emailed today asking if I had received it yet. It too will probably have to be redone. As usual, the Postal Service is very reluctant to announce major internal problems, but if you check the P.O. web site and look at all the zip codes still under embargo, it's pretty easy to read between the lines.

sparkz; Why would a pkg from CA to Iowa go anywhere near the South?? That is not the answer.

Sanmar..It didn't go south. All the packages from the south were diverted to the midwest or north. Yours is buried under a pile of Missippi junk mail in a warehouse in Iowa or Kansas.

I use DC through Stamps.com because it is free on priority. Problem is that it has to make it to the NEXT post office station before it is "tracked". Even tried having local post office scan each package, same result. ONLY shows date the DC was initiated. So if it falls behind your seat on the way to PO (or into the PO workers car)...it is now "lost"

I use PayPal, its free & easy to use. My PO delivery gal picks them up at my door & immediately scans them, so I know the time & date that it was pickesd up. When I told what had happened, she said wellk, you know I did my job. Thats why I scan everything as soon as I get it. I can't figure out why you spend $$ for endica when PayPal is free.

In the past 3 days, I have had 2 buyers complain they haven't received their packages and this is after 2 or 3 weeks. I sent them Priority. Must be the hurricanes are screwing up the postal system and routing somehow.

sparkz You are correct, Katrina has caused unreal damage to mailing and UPS facilities in some of the Southern States, even in Texas.
We are in the midst of selling a large track of land near Houston, and it takes forever and a day to get papers back and forth because the post office in the near Houston suburb was destroyed.
REALIZE both USPS & UPS have had to re-route hundreds of thousands of pieces of mail/packages because of the hurricanes, and it must be a total nightmare for them.
Since we, personally, require a signature on ALL packages, we have not encountered this lost package issue.
However, I do not imagine the standard USPS & UPS will be back until normal till after the first of the year, and that is if we do not have another gulf hurricane.
With the current mail & UPS problems, have a bit of patience and think about walking a mile in their shoes. Just because a package is not going into a southern region, it does not mean that the jumble left by the hurricanes has not affected the entire system.
Just think how well you would be able to work if one day half your sales/paid records just blew away! It would affect everything you are doing. Be a bit patient with the delivery services.

I sent a rather large parcel (about 5' high) by UPS to Georgetown, TX (near San Angelo) shortly after Hurricane Katrina and just as Hurricane Rita was making the news when they feared Galeveston, TX would be hit hard. To my surprise, the package I sent arrived EARLIER than scheduled!!!
