I had an idea that US buyers were charged import duties on amounts over $200. Can someone let me know if that is correct? I have a quite a large amount of yarn to mail, and I am wondering if it would be better to divide it into 2 boxes.

I've been importing products from Europe, for about 5 years and I have always had to pay an import tax. I have all my deliveries go through UPS, and UPS bills me the brokerage fee.

I asked this question to UPS once...
Couldn't get it 100% confirmed but it would appear that:
items FROM Canada going INTO the United States at under $200 CDN go through duty free.
items FROM the United States going into Canada over $20 (yes, just twenty) are subject to duty.
I beleive the amounts are similar for merchandise coming from Europe and other parts of the world after conversion from Pounds Sterling, Euros, etc.

You can go to US customs site and find out,it seems 200 dollars is the cutoff .
Antiques and art work is exempt, antiques is defined as any thing of value over 100 years old and artwork is considered one of a kind.
French limoge porcelain hinged box is considered one of a kind and should be exempt.
