Anyone else experiencing this? I have two ebay accounts. One I do clothes, the other I do vintage collectibles. Neither did jack last week. Our store here in Portland has been dead for the last month as well. I'm beginning to wonder where they figure we'll see a 25% Christmas Sales increase from last year. I've talked to our neighboring businesses and they all have shared the same experience.

I had a good week for auctions - store was a little slow. I had some good stuff selling though - two old Austrian decanters that brought $335 and $833 and I had alot of nice cut glass that usually does well in the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving.

my sales have been going weirdly, in spurts. some weeks surprisingly well and i get my hopes up and then bam! a dismal week. there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it that i can discern, except for the interjection of hurricanes katrina and rita and the change in the google algorithms. (and, of course, all the time spent on the web page thus far takes time away from listing, so that one's on me)
i've been pleasantly surprised by the results so far from participating in the 10-cent FP listing sale yesterday, though.

The last few days the store has done good. So far the FP listings are doing well. I am closing my Peddlers Mall booth this month, that has totally bit the dirt. I am getting ready to try selling in a few areas I have never sold in on E-Bay before,so we'll see what happens. What I was selling on E-Bay has so much competition I can't make anything anymore. But I change what I sell about every year anyway.

I had a decent week last week. So far this week isn't so good but I had a hurt foot and wasn't really able to do my listings.
I only listed a few 10 cent listings but one sold last night so that was a nice surprise.

Last winter early spring I was having a 75% sell through rate.I had never done so much $ or had such great sales. I am LUCKY now and for the past few months to have 30%.Same sort of mix. On 100 auctions of antiques and collectibles I presently have 8 active bids going. I am ready to get a job! Like this isn't! Boy I sound down even to me....Caroline do you only sell higher priced items or do you do across the board? I have show merchandise that is high dollar but have always shied away from doing it on ebay. I searching for answers....

You're certainly not alone, as we are finding it very slow, as well. We're hoping for a nice Holiday rush, but suspect that it will not be all that it is being made out to be by the media. I have a feeling that most buyers will be cautious this Holiday Season, especially once they receive their first real home heating bills.

You think that was bad! We are PS on Ebay for 8 years now. Look at this weeks totals:
Auction day one- ran 100 auctions, sold 13.
Auction day two- ran 60 auctions, sold 12.
This is now a first! Ran 42 auctions that are 75% minimum sell thru rate items and sold, now get ready for this, 0. I meam nothing! 0 for 42!
Stores sales for us also have dried up big time. Spurts the last two weeks.
Our normal sell thru rates are from 35% to as high as 80%. So something is really strange.
And yes we do sell many different non related items from collectibles, out of print music records and vintage clothing.
Cant pay the bills on this. Maybe its time to re enter the workforce.

It's just weird. Items are surprising me on both sides of expectations. Some things I listed more as a courtesy to the consignor than anything else are being bid on. Some "fliers" I listed high get hit. OTOH, some things that I feel would have done well a year ago are sitting there gathering moss.

I have had my store open for only a month & sales have been better than I expected. My total sales are over $1000.00 which is a heck of a lot better than I was doing on auctions. This way I can list as many as I want & they are on for 30 days, not 7 days. I wish I had done this along time ago.

My store has been doing pretty well, surpassed expectations almost immediately. I've altered my ebay strategy, I now do about 1/3 of what I was doing via auction, and more in the store.

I'm glad somebody posted this topic - so I know I'm not alone.
I'm a sporadic seller and constant buyer. Like another poster I sold like crazy in early spring....best sales ever.
In June things tanked.
Took the summer off and did well selling in Sept.
After a break, I've been selling again the last week or so and can honestly say sales are the worst ever (over 6 years).
BTW, I sell unique antique items that have always held up (actually increased) price-wise....so something is definitely in the air.

bjboswell - not a real job!!! No - don't do it!! I actually considered it as well when I went through the September slump. It's starting to pick up again finally.
I sell middle to high end items. I try not to sell anything under $40 or so unless I'm just trying to get rid of it from a lot of items. It's just not worth the time or the profit (or lack of).
I'm doing alot of no reserve sales right now with a low starting bid - so I have a 100% sell through rate - but there are some items I have taken a loss on - no huge ones (yet!).
Do you use reserves or just list at your asking price? If you use a low starting bid and put the reserve on - you at least get viewers pecking away trying to figure out the reserve - alot of them won't even view an item with a high opening bid. Most of them have gotten too cheap.

Caroline,
I've gone in the other direction. I estimate that I did 90% of my auctions at $1 NR a year ago. Now it's probably 10% that way, the rest at a moderate opening bid, but still no reserve. I used a reserve twice (out of 5000+ auctions) at a consignors insistence; neither one sold.

I don't know what's happening, but I'm getting serious bids on my auctions. Some of the bids are surprising.
Now, if someone bids on the MacKenzie-Childs and Maurice Villency furniture, I'll have myself the beginnings of a great November.
