Look at the bright side. You were held in the same high esteem thas some of the most successful and wealthy businessmen in the country were this week. I'm referring to the 5 oil co CEO's that were grilled by the Senate this week about gouging consumers. You need to email her back and tell her there is a temporary price spike in your merchandise because of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, but you expect the prices to level off in a couple years

<<What can you do to make $ and not have to take this abuse?>> Bank robbery. Tellers are seldom abusive when looking down the barrel of a Glock.

I'd feel *obligated* to respond "how much SHOULD I start the bidding at?"

bjboswell, I honestly don't know how you or any of the other surviving antique dealers on eBay stay alive. I dropped out a long time ago; it was too hard to get inventory consistently, what with other eBay sellers running up prices at wholesale auctions.

There *is* that one shooting star antique dealer who, last I looked, was hawking quite a few 10k and 14k gemstone (read: made in China) rings with oh-so-vague descriptions. Guess an "estate piece" these days means "we took it out of the cellophane and kicked some dirt over it before listing".

Best of luck to you; hope things improve before the holidays.

Fluffy isn't it the truth!!!

I was looking at oyster plates last night and was stunned to see that some "antique dealer" has about 30 of them listed ... nice looking ones... at $35.00 with $10.85 shipping. I looked quickly and thought is this person nuts or did she fall into a large pot of good luck... I read on. They are all good looking for a reason they are new not one back shown but in a casual notation these lovely new plates are sure to please.
Your right I don't know how we survive. I am exhausted from listing this week only to have a VERY lack lustre return on my time and investment. What do I do? Become a seller of the new stuff... good looking of course? Do I buy a pile of Chinese somethings and become an off shoot of the Chinese economy. I really feel myself at a cross roads. When I received that letter last night it sort of tipped me into rage...I list a real-vintage- excellent condition- book value $200 - not easy to find even on ebay- piece of holiday hard plastic for $85.00 and get blasted by someone who paid $45 for a common piece 2 weeks ago that I would not even buy anymore!
I'm grateful for this... I know my merchandise, I am honest and especially today... I am the chair person of the Roast Pork dinner at church tonight and will spend the day and evening with people who like me. My real name is Mikey!
