Not sure, but worth a try & if it works...let me know.

Just got this email:

Thought this may be worthwhile sharing with everyone.

If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home,
call someone at home on your cell phone.

Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the
other person press the unlock button of your key fob (clicker),
holding it near the phone on their end. Your car doors will unlock.
Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you.

Distance is no object you could be hundreds of miles away,
and if you can reach someone who has the other "remote" for your car,
you can unlock the doors (or the trunk!).

No, it can not work. It is an urban myth.

Neglus, when your husband reads this, he will NOT be happy you woke him up!

Don't have that either. Guess I'll have to depend on a magnetic Hide a Key.

No way at all it will work. The remote for your car is a RF (radio frequency) transmitter. Your telephone handset (mouth piece) is a microphone. Microphones have no way of receiving RF transmissions and retransmitting them. Even if they did, it still would not work because when the other phone received it it has no way of broadcasting a RF signal through the earpiece which is nothing more than a small speaker. Phones only work with sound, ie. vibrations in the air. Rf is not a vibration in the air but a energy emission in a specefic frequency band.

Best advice is to go to the local auto parts store and buy one of those little "hide-a-key" box's. It is a little box you put a spare key in that has a powerfull magnet on the back. Place key inside and stick on the underside of your car in a safe place where it will not get knocked off. Of the 80 to 100 lockouts I do a year I would say 90% of them buy a hide-a-key from me at the time I unlock their vehicle and I never have to do a lockout for them again.

Mike is correct. RF (radio frequencies) and AF (audio frequencies) are two entirely different things. If your car locks operated with an AF receiver, it would work. The best way to handle the situation is to buy a convertable and carry a sharp pocket knife with you. You won't be locked out long.

If you belong to the Auto Club, they will make you a wallet sized card with your key cut into the middle. It will open your car door but will not turn on the ignition.

Ahhh, but these only work for regular cut keys and not on high security/laser/sidewinder key's. They are a very good idea though and I have one in my wallet for my pick-up truck and 32 foot box truck. Actually had to use one for my box truck one time. Didn't feel like having to pick the lock.

I'm pretty sure it won't work on my car... I don't have a remote. Remember the old days when you had to put a key in a keyhole?

It's getting embarassing, really. When I get about five paces to the car I yell "chirp-chirp" just so people won't think I'm stealing it.
