Since 1996, we have only missed posting on eBay once during the Christmas season, and found we did not actually lose very much.
However, I did find we missed dealing with the hysterical buyers, wanting their purchases a day after they bid, etc.
Although, we post much, much less on eBay than back in the 1990’s, I decided we did not need the pressure and emotional hassle that comes which the Xmas buying season. We have closed all our auctions AND our store for the season.
After watching a our graph of sales over the years, we do much more selling after Xmas than prior, and have a zillion times less problems, lost mail/UPS items, broken items, upset customers, and hysteria going on.
We are leaving our web sites open, but they are much easier to control.
So best of wishes to the eBay Xmas sellers, see you all in 2006.

I think this is my last Christmas selling on eBay. You are right about sales being better after Christmas. That's my best time. Next year I'll concentrate on getting inventory and preparing to rid myself of the old stuff through sales and such and resume after the new year. I haven't had to deal with any crabby customers yet. I'm waiting.

When my listings go off this week,I'm only going to sell what I have listed in my store until next year. Listing for Christmas is not worth the hassle, learned that last year.

January has always been the strongest month for me except for last year. I often wonder if the Tsunami punch and recoil that was being watched by the nation had the trickle down affect. I, too, won't be listing after yesterday. I do usually start launching around the 1st or 2nd.

I am so glad to see that I am not the only experienced eBayer, who is closing down for the Xmas Season, and who has found that the hassle, lost or broken items in shipping; rude, pushy and impertinent, customers are not unique to me; and not worth the emotional pressure.
Wishes for a blessed holiday season

I'm in a rough spot this year. I've been around eBay for enough Christmases to know exactly what you guys are talking about.
However, when school starts up again in January, I'm not going to be able to list very much. So I have to get all the sales I can right NOW, while I don't have anything more important to do.
I haven't had any problems so far this year, but if there are going to be any, next week will be it. Since 95% of my merchandise goes by media mail or parcel post, I **KNOW** it's gonna come up real soon now.
Anyone have any suggestions about a disclaimer notice I could place in my listings? I realize no one will read it, but I could point to it after the fact

The hysterical customers are just as bad for website shopping as for eBay. Think I'm going to set Monday as the deadline.

I already don't guarantee delivery for Christmas. On average in December it is taking seven days for first class mail to cross the country. If I don't ship it today (and I'm pretty busy with non-eBay stuff) you won't get it for Christmas.
Too bad, so sad.
Truly, the furor has calmed down since the last week of Thanksgiving. That seemed to be when blood pressure all over America was spiking.
I'm not listing tomorrow or Sunday for what I hope are obvious reasons. Monday, though, watch out.

Humm, I was going to wait until January to start posting but may have to try just a few to close after Christmas day. In last 3 years the Christmas time sells have always been down. Good luck to all with their sells.

We did not guarantee anything shipped after December, and shut down our eBay store, and auctions about the 11th. We also closed down all Yahoo auctions. We do post on a niche auction, and just have too many auction up, and no easy way to close them, but they do get a "winner's" note saying that the item is NOT guaranteed for Xmas delivery.
I many start posting after Xmas, but eBay has been so screwed up lately; I am almost hesitant to post on it.
Happy & Safe Holidays to each and every one.

ME TOO! Sales on Ebay are always dismal for me at Christmas time. I spent years working in a business that was really busy at Christmas and now I don't want any of the hassle. I avoid any holidays on Ebay anyway. Sales are always poor just before a holiday - no matter if it is a gift giving one or not. Ever notice that Ebay puts its best fee deals right before a holiday weekend?????
