eBay auction listings have fallen about 3 million on the last week, with no signs of slowing. I would guess a special promotion (10-cent day?) should be coming up soon.

People stop listing for Christmas and to avoid buyer who win on friday and want the item in time for Sunday. Happens every year.

Interesting...wonder why the huge dips in March and April and equally huge jump in May? Any theories?

The peaks are Ebay 10 cent listing days - once they are over, thing returned to "normal".

Ebay did a 10cent all format (auction and fixed price) sales day last year on the 27th.

Not far from going under 10 million listings (the lowest auction count of the year), and still no sign of slowing.

If they do decide to have a reduced price listing day, I HOPE they get the sign-in issues corrected first. Can you imagine trying to list, and signing in several times a listing?

DIDO BIG TIME!!! I HAVE 185 NEW LISTINGS ALL SET AND READY TO GO AND WILL HAVE RERUNS AS WELL. I was away for the weekend so missed the "excitement" This is BIG TIME scarrrrry stuff for ebay sellers to not feel safe. I read the boards and immediatly emptied my PayPal account and changed my passwords.
As for the counts they WILL have something hopefully it will be a 10 cent auction OR fixed wouldn't that be nice .... we have control!
Back to the grind....

Would think that Ebay expects that auction listings will plummet this time of year and is fully prepared for it to happen. See no reason why they should offer any inducments to list. They will see a big upsurge in mid January anyway.

buyhigh This is true but if you look at the charts they have had a "sale" gift to us after Christmas for a number of years. Historically speaking it's in their interest... and especially with all the hoo haa last weekend they need us to list and maintain the look of a strong company.

Wahoo! 12 days of listing count freefall. The 10 million mark is almost here...

Any predictions for a FLD or 10-cent day?

I'd guess the day after Christmas or New Years day most likely.

What you can do is prelist your items to start in about three weeks. Then for some reason, Ebay scrooges out, then you can cancel the listings before their scheduled times and not be charged anything.

Or if they do announce a special listing day, then simply revise your listings either on that date or ahead of time to that date.

Now listings at 9 million, and still dropping fast.

I'm surprised a selling promotion hasn't kicked in yet, especially for the foreign ebay sites.

As well as I can recall, some of the FLD's and promos have been announced as late as 10:00 PM pst the night before. They won't give much advance notice. I've been periodically checking the general announcement board and nothing so far tonight.

Here's a little html hack that shows the announcements for US, Canada, UK, and Australia ebay announcement pages (just scroll to the right after page loads)

It's a couple minutes past midnight ebay time and no seller promotions.

There's a promotion for Skype though:

I was checking out the Skype link earlier. Notice that the pricing info is in euros?
