for that much - wouldn't you think they'd invest in larger images?

I sent it onto my son in law who works for Birmingham Bud - I asked him if he had one of these hanging around

thanks for posting it!

glassgrl - You know, that's a good point. You would think they could have invested a little more in the listing.

I was thinking the same thing. The images are nothing to write home about, and to make things worse, he has them hosted on Ebay's crappy system. Admittedly, the glare from shiny objects like this can be a killer when you are trying to get a close up of the detail in a logo, but I've been known to take up to twenty shots at different angles with different lighting configurations on an important item before I could get one that would satisfy the critical eye of a serious collector.

Hey why invest in gold when you've already got platinum, or tritanium, or whatever it is. Seems to be doing just fine as is. Someone with possible inside knowledge has speculated in the questions to this guy, that the reserve is set at $30,000, so there's room yet if you want to get in a quick bid or two. Of course, if you win, explaining it to your significant other might be a bit dicey...

I'm wondering how long this has sat around in his Ebay room?

Just kidding........I know it's on consignment. Although my DH swears I've got stuff that I haven't auctioned off that could be OOAK.......

So what happened to the beer can auction...?

Bidding ended at a little over $23K and...reserve not met!

The auction shows as being relisted but when you go to look at it, nada, the listing has been nuked or removed.

Remember the almost mint Clipper Pale can a lady found in the rafters of an old building on the property she bought. Went for 20K

Wish we knew what the reserve was. I'm thinking $25,000?

there is actually a lot of information about this can on this website:
http://pub48.bravenet.com/forum/4110622994/show/540075

(there are other threads on this also over there - this one talked about who actually owned it etc.)

I think the reserve was $30,000 or over since the owner had turned down $30,000. I imagine he sold it off Ebay to a private party.

That's just my guess.

mcjane, lady and glassgrl: I was away for a few days and now have a chance to catch up.

I was just curious as to what had happened because I thought that can was a great find/item. glassgrl, kudos and thanks to you for finding that thread. I had earlier done a quick, not very good, and evidently unsuccessful google search for some more info which I knew had to be out there somewhere (due to the can's importance).

A comment from that thread said, in part, that the can had previously sold Friday October 13th 2000 for $20,000 plus a beer advertising rifle (who would've thought here was one?). Even if it sold this time for only $25K -likely more, and I'm inclined to agree with you as off ebay- it's a pretty return on a 5 1/2 year investment. Banks could never match that. Guess the parties involved weren't very superstitious either.

Together with that Clipper Pale can find, I personally find these stories inspiring as it could, and I'm sure occasionally does, happen to any of us (though perhaps not to such a grand sale).
