(With eBay since 1997)

I had a personal account with PayPal that I used for purchases only. The amount was withdrawn from my checking account. No problems in the past.

Recently, due to sales, I upgraded to the business/premier account. No problem with payments received.

However, in balancing my checking account today, I see that 3 items that I purchased (all under $20 each) have not cleared my checking account. They are shown as being paid in PayPal but my bank hasn't withdrawn the amount from my checking account (and they are not on the CC history either and shouldn't be).

Anyone have similiar or can give me some PayPal 101 information? Also, how would I go about switching it so when I make a purchase the amount is charged to my credit card first rather than being withdrawn from my checking account first.

(Never had problems with BillPoint but its taking me awhile to adjust to PayPal at the Premier level)

Thanks!

PayPal will only remove the finds from your Checking account if there are no funds in your your PayPal account. iassume that, since you are a seller, you probably had funds in your account at the time and so your PayPal account was debited rather than you checking account.

I dont have the answer to your first question why the withdrawn amount is still in your checking account?
But for the second question, when you sign on to Paypal and make a payment, the next screen will show your sources of fund- paypal balance, credit card,e check and checking account .
If uou have fund in your Paypal account,it will use those first, but for the other options, you have a choice to decide credit card versus checking account.
If you choose credit card, then the next screen will ask -are you sure you want to use your credit card, you get full protection using your checking account plus a chance of winning the grand lottery??bla bla bla
Then you just ignore that screen and move on,Paypal will then charge the amount to your credit card.
try it

Thanks fenix03 and hwahwa for the quick replies.

Fenix--you're right that I probably had a balance. So I more than likely should not be entering the payment in my check register as a separate entry.

Thanks hwahwa on the CC information.

I was sooooooo set against upgrading my account to Premier but the CDs we were selling flew out when I made CC available through PayPal. Didn't show a difference on the other items I had listed.

I guess "never say never"!

If you dont want Paypal to tap your Paypal balance first, just withdraw the fund to your checking account before you make payment.
Consider applying for a Paypal debit card,if you use it in stores/restaurants/gas stations AS A CREDIT CARD,Paypal will rebate part of the discount fee it earns from the merchant,I think it is like 1 1/2 % ,you will see this rebate as a separate entry on your Paypal transaction history.
But to get that rebate ,you have to agree that you prefer Paypal on all your auction pages.

Definately get the debit card!! If you use it for nothing else, it's great for paying your postage costs. I also use it to purchase money orders. It's an instant way to get your funds (as opposed to having to wait for the funds be transferred to your checking account) and cheaper than an ATM withdrawal ($1.30 per $1000 as opposed to $1.50-3.00 per $400) with a much higher daily limit. You can only withdraw $400 a day thru an ATM but you can withdraw up to $4000 if you are using your debit card to purchase money orders.

If you are planning to make some big purchases, like airlne ticket, home appiances etc,you can transfer fund from your bank account to your Paypal account ,then go shopping with its debit card.
You will get a 1 1/2 %(I think it has been reduced to 1 1/4% now) rebate from Paypal as it earns discount fee from the merchant with your money!!
not too shabby,if you spent 3k,you get a rebate of 37.50 if the rebate is 1.25%

You will not get a rebate if used as a debit card it has to be used as a credit card... Our Walmart recently changed their card swipes and does not or I have not figured out to make it as a credit so I have not gotten any rebate on those purchases. I am pretty pissed at that fact but just be sure to tell post office if using it there that it is credit not debit. Only rebates for credit use, LOL I don't know what the difference is(probably what they charge the institution for services) but that is how it works.

Irked:

We have a brand new Walmart and their swipes should be up to date so this should work. The machine will of course default to debit after your swipe. Simply hit cancel, and that should give you the credit option in the next screen. Works for me.

Thanks brig** I was wondering about that we also have a new Walmart and since it opened in Oct & NO one out there could tell me how to make it work as credit. Will certainly try that as I like the rebates even small ones. Appreciate the tip.
