Click on My Account. Then in the upper right section click on ebay site specifics. The whole way at the bottom of this page is the section that designates the picture displayed at the top left of the listing's. If you want to use the first (gallery) immage select "Use your first listing image". Or you can chose a logo, leave blank or "read your item description".

Mike: I've been wondering this, too, for a while. Somehow my preferences got messed up and I was afraid to mess with them further.
So. . . if I don't have a gallery image for a certain auction, there will just be those other three options?

If you don't have a gallery image then the picture at the top left is still the first picture in your listing. It really does not matter if it's the gallery image or not. That's why the choice is called "Use your first listing image".
