I believe I've posted to at least a half-dozen threads here today. Where were you?

Yes, I use the fluffythewondercat ID to buy things on eBay. Now you know my bra size.

Anybody read _Futureshop_ (How the New Auction Culture Will Revolutionize the Way We Buy, Sell and Get the Things We REALLY Want) by Daniel Nissanoff? I was intrigued by the concept of the auction culture, where no one ever really owns anything for any protracted length of time, because once you've used it for what you wanted, it just sits in the closet gathering dust and declining in value. It makes way more sense to resell it.

The problem is that it is very time-consuming for newbies to easily dispose of their excess goods on Mama eBay. The learning curve is too steep.

Admittedly this is a rather self-serving thesis for Nissanoff, who is a founder of an "online facilitation company" (read: eBay dropoff store) called Portero.

Fluffy,

I read it, and it's interesting. I obviously believe in the central thesis, as I picked an affluent community to work in, busily facilitating the "end of lease" on handbags, cameras, etc.

It's a bit repetitive, but well-written otherwise.

I just hope that more local residents get the idea, whether they've read the book or not

Claude

Fluffy, glad you are alive and well!
If newbies just want to dispose their personal stuff, learning to sell on Ebay should be a piece of cake, the problem is that they want to recoup what they paid in the retail store!
It is like listening to a broken tape recorder-BUT I PAID $XX.XX AT YYY store!!
I am losing money on Ebay!
I will someday wakeup poor with nothing else to sell !!

Claude,

A smart marketing move would be to write an article about the "auction culture" trend, citing Nissanoff's book as an authoritative source. It doesn't have to be a long piece. I'm sure one or more of your local newspapers would run it.

Could go something like this...

"In the future, we'll all be wearing a Rolex," says Claude eBayer. "Then when we tire of it, we can easily cash it in and get a Hermes Kelly handbag or a David Yurman bracelet instead.

"eBayer, owner of eBay dropoff store Cash In Your Closet, knows of what he speaks. He has seen thousands of lightly-used luxury goods such as (...) go to delighted indulgence-seekers."

etc.

That's Nissanoff's thesis, not mine.

However, like many others here, I have helped a lot of people get started selling on eBay.

haha - oh I'm sorry I guess that's supposed to be hwahwa.

you know I think that's just totally rude starting a thread about where's Fluffy and then posting for the world what Fluff has bought (aka "bot" for you) on Ebay. Like we really needed that brought to our attention.

why don't you spend your time more wisely and find a new sig line.

Glassgrl,

I'm with you.

Maybe I've just spent too much time here lately. It seems that the lunatics have taken over the asylum. Is the RT forum down or something?

Maybe next week it will be better.

Over the years Fluffy has given advice that I have found to be beneficial to me. I still am amazed at Ebay for shutting down her business for no legitimate reason, but they know they are the best game in town.

I never know what kind of day or week another person has had so I try to give them some slack. Sometimes being anonymous on a board allows you to vent and save the blood pressure from rising to unhealthy levels.

I know while I was going though the 12 (yes, 12) biopsies for Breast Cancer (all negative thank God) for 3 weeks, I didn't dare post as I probably would have been very nasty and negative. I spent my time getting all of my paperwork, mementos, photos etc. in order just in case.

edited because I didn't use spellcheck...
