Except I didn't bid & don't even know what this thing is.
I went to eBay search to check it out.
Can anyone tell by the headers where it came from.
It doesn't look like a scam to me & there are no links in the email. Maybe it's just an eBay mistake.
The bid that has been entered in error for the item ( 7610115840 ) has been cancelled.
Regards,
eBay

There is every chance it is a spoof email. Do not click on any links in the email. they will be trying to get your info. most likely to break into your ebay account. Or get info from your system.

Do you notice if you reply to this email,it would go to [email protected]
and not [email protected].
wonder if this is how they scam you??
say if you reply and then they will send you another email with clickable link?

Did the message say it was a bid error on something you were bidding on? Maybe a bidder entered a bid in error on one of your items??

From the looks of the header it is from ebay. Really does not matter what is in front of the @ebay.com. As long as it is @eay.com and nothing else after the @.

It's a spoof. "eBay sent this message to ([email protected]).
Your registered email address is included to show this message originated from eBay. " That is not the heading Ebay sends. It should read "Your registered Ebay name"
Also, a quick check of the bid history shows there were no cancelled or retracted bids on this auction. Is there a copy of this email in your "My Messages" folder?

The email in my VD post is a cut & paste, I changed or deleted nothing.
I have no auctions running now & haven't for the last 30 days.
There were no clickable links in the email.
There is no message in my folder.
Yes, they sure do try anything.
I was curious because there wasn't a link so had no idea who was after what.
Now here's another mystery. Tom your post on this thread was here a minute ago, where you asked about a message in my folder & had poodle in an email address & now it's vanished as if it were never there. I must have scrolled 5 times looking for it....poof, it's gone. Even closed the page & came back, still not there.

McJane...It's in my post. I had originally quoted the first paragraph of your email which had your email address in it, and I edited it out and put in Ralphie's instead after Glassgrl's post. You might want to do the same in your original post. The spam merchants have spyders that roam these boards harvesting email addresses. If you leave your real email addy in that post, you will wind up with an inbox with about a thousand spam messages for Viagra. If you edit it out, Ralphie will get those spam emails instead

Wrong Stone. That header refers to McJane's email client. Her ISP's email is administered by AOL. In addition to wmconnect, you'll see the same thing in a lot of smaller ISPs.

if you can, you might want to report the email to AOL mcjane. if you don't have AOL then maybe somebody here would do it for you.

nevermind AOL. I contacted NetFirms.com and reported it with live chat - followed up with an online form and email.

A few weeks ago I received an email from Ebay and there was this clickable link,like a fool ,I clicked on it and there it was,an Ebay sign on page so I signed in and it took me to MY EBAY ,so I thought it is all fine and dandy.
Last week,I left the house to go shopping,I must have been gone no more than 1 1/2 hours and when I came home,there were 10 emails from EBay confirming my new listings.
Well I dont have any new listing,so I went to EBay and saw there were 10 listings listed under my seller ID for Cannon cameras,laptops and sewing machines all starting at 3 dollars!!
The pictures look like they were old and the items look vintage??and in the middle of the item description page was this guy's AOL email addr encouraging bidders to contact and buy from him direct!!
Well they were all 3 days auction.
So I contact Ebay live and the gal said she needed to talk to me on the phone ,so we talked and she verified a few pieces of personal data and proceeded to cancel all these listings and reversed the listing fees.
What do you know,all these 3 dollars items were listed as featured gallery with no reserve for 3 days,the total listing fee charged to my credit card was 485 dollars!!
What I dont understand is if he is so desperate,why didn't he make them all BUY IT NOW,so he can collect 3 dollars per listing sooner than later ??

oh - I forgot to tell you how it was done.
first you need the original email - which McJane forwarded to me as an attachment.
forget the headers. all you have to do is open the email - in Outlook you right click and view source. I don't know how you do it if you have AOL etc.
then you see what it says. this one looked like this:
<HTML><HEAD>
<META content="MSHTML 6.00.2900.2180" name=GENERATOR></HEAD>
<BODY bgColor=#ffffff>
<TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width=600 border=0>
<TBODY>
<TR>
<TD vAlign=top width=600>
<P><FONT size=2><FONT face=Verdana><FONT size=1><FONT color=#666666><B>eBay sent this message to ([email protected]).<BR></B>Your registered email address is included to show this message originated from eBay.</FONT></FONT>

What happens when we report these emails?
Besides disabling the link,do they report them to the aucthority ?If so,who is the local authority ,do they take action and if they do,what is the punishment?
I know in Nigeria,scammers go to internet cafe like some go to work in the office every day to manufacture pfishing emails,the cafe owner is sure not going to report them as they pay his bills??
