I have a "featured" ebay store and decided to use my $90 free keywords for the first time. (My plan was to downgrade to a basic store once the money was used) At first I set up a campaign for "motel postcard" and got about 500,000 impressions and 50 clicks (at 12 cents a click). YIKES! At this rate I will NEVER use up my balance.
I expanded the campaign to "postcard" and tied it to almost every postcard category - the price per click has gone up but still! I have had over 2,000,000 impressions and only 172 clicks. Is this normal?
As far as I can see, the keyword budget is about the only real benefit to having a featured store. Has any one else tried a keyword campaign ? I just have no way to measure the volue of this!

Beth - I never got an answer to my questions. Sales were average during the period it was running so I can't say that there was a measurable impact on sales..but it's FREE ! The only thing you lose is your time setting it up and that's not much. I just renewed my campaign so I can use up my $90 before a go back to basic store.

I was confused by the post at first, then realized your original post was in April.

This should have been enough time to get a realistic idea on the impact, or lack of impact, of the keyword program. Sounds like you did not benefit from them.

So what keywords are you using? I guess I will go give it a try now. Just don't want to spend more than my $90.

I have never clicked on the banners above the search (if that is what the keywords are for). It irritates me that they are there.
I'm the same way with sponsored links and side bar listings when i search google or Yahoo.
Maybe I'm the minority, but I just find all that extra stuff gets in the way of what I started out looking for. And, in the case of Ebay it slows down the page to page progress when you click next page or the back key. I have cable internet and still find it annyoingly slow as that is the last thing on the page to clear.

Beth - Mine stopped when I it hit $90 - gives you the opportunity to add more $ if you want.
I started with specific key words like "motel postcard", "california postcard" etc but since it was taking SO LONG to use the $ I switched to "postcard" and it still took about a month to spend it!

Interesting sidenote. When I search eBay using Explorer the smaller keyword ads don't appear. However, with Mozilla they do. Think I am going to just forget it.

fwiw, i used up the $90 in "free" keywords before downgrading from a featured store to a basic. while i had tons of "impressions" and many clicks, the absence or presence of keywords had no measurable effect that i could tell on sales. i decided they were ineffective and certainly not "free," since a featured store cost me $34 more/month than a basic store did. http://stores.ebay.com/postcards-postcards http://www.vintagepostcards.org http://vintage-postcards.blogspot.com/

True Vintage - I don't think I am getting any benefit from the keyword campaign but I've paid for it so I might as well use it.
