Well isn't that special - doesn't UPS, FedEx and DHL all require you to list the contents on the shipping label?

I'm still waiting to here on my appeal where DHL paid and DSI didn't???

Sounds like DSI is a scam for international insurance. You have to give detailed descriptions of what is in any package no matter who you ship through, it's called CUSTOMS DECLERATION FORMS!!! I get the feeling their starting to loose their pants and trying to find a easy way to deny claims. I think they found it.

I asked for some clarification from the folks at DSI, as I thought we may be mis-interpreting some of the policies...Here is the reply:

"The Endorsement we sent out was due to a change in underwriting. There are very few changes to the original policy but since we sent these out, people are now reading their policies! That is good news.

Some of the changes we added were a few new excluded countries and commodities. One change that has been overlooked is that we now give more time to file claims with us.

Regarding the post on Vendio that reads:
"Loss, damage, shortage, or non-arrival of any parcel and its contents when it bears a descriptive label or packaging which describes, or alludes to, the nature of the contents. Shipments packaged in original manufacturer provided packaging are NOT excluded. Customs declarations are NOT excluded" --

That has always been our policy, but I do not understand the comment "Well isn't that special - doesn't UPS, FedEx and DHL all require you to list the contents on the shipping label?". If you list the contents of your package on the customs forms, it IS covered, as this is legally required. I.E, Packaged with customs forms containing a description of goods are Not Excluded from coverage. This exclusion is to stop people from, for example, sending a diamond ring in a box that has a picture of a diamond on the outside of the box and says "ABC Diamonds" on the return address."

Tom - DSI isn't only talking about international shipments - or at least that the way I understand it.
I also spoke with them and they told me that they don't believe that DHL, UPS or Fedex "require" the contents to be listed but I want to hear that from DHL, UPS and Fedex. You must have talked to the same person I did as I was also given the "Diamond Ring" example.
I'm going to see if the auction # will be allowed as that will be a good cross reference and will met DSI requirement.
Oh yeah they do have my appeal so we will see what happens.

I spoke to the folk at DSI last night our time. And for me was told that it will not affect me in any way. So long as my parcels dont go over $5,000. value. They know that i ship finished opals and sliced and rough opal world wide. And they insure to ESTONIA. Also Tom your correct, they have now got a new underwriter. My wife said the wording is almost the same as aust post insurance. Looks like they are trying to make the same world wide.

if you want the other 4 or 5 pages i can post them for you.
