Question number 1 - what's the best way to clean vinyl records? There seem to be two methods (highly debated on Google) to clean LPs. 1 is 50/50 alcohol and water and the other is a drop of Dawn etc and clean water.
Question number 2 - where am I going to find locally a thingy to put in the middle of my 45's? Do they still sell them? Am I going to have to buy from Ebay?
Question number 3 - ok. I'll admit to being Blonde. Is my line in jack where you hook up the speakers on the back of my computer?

I can't help you with cleaning them, but you can buy the little round thing that goes onto your turntable to allow the 45s to play. You can pick one up at any radio shack.
That's much easier than trying to get the little circle things in each record But, if you prefer that you can buy them at radio shack also. Along with several different cleaning solutions, stylus's for the turntable, etc.
I didn't like using the line in jack so bought a USB connection with the two In jacks built in. Picked that up at Comp USA. I get the best recordings from my stand alone Phillips CD recorder, but if I'm too busy I just run them through the computer so I can split tracks later.

About cleaning records: I had several dozen very early 78s, from 1910 to 1940. I used a little detergent in clean water, as suggested above, and a very soft brush to clean in a circular motion, then rinsed and air-dried. They were fine.

I should have added that, yes, the line-in jack is what you will use. But, you will need a Y connector to use it. (One may have came with your computer). That has the duel plugs to put into your receiver and the single one for the line-in.

This is the water expert I know in Seattle who is even now formulating a new cleaning formula he is designing just for records.
If anyone has a moldy but not warped record he is looking for one to test his formula on.
