Jack, did you try deleting your temp files: cache etc? A lot of spyware hides out there. Spybot search and destroy used to be my favorite but I have found that it does a terrible job on Windows XP. It seems not to recognize what is spyware and what is really the windows operating system.

What kind of error are you getting? is it a pop up? if so, it could be a file you can easily get rid of in your temp files or it may be paired with something you recently downloaded. Go to START>CONTROL PANEL> ADD REMOVE PROGRAMS and see if there is anything weird listed there. Becareful in uninstalling as it could effect programs that you are using.

Sorry I couldnt be much help

The Yahoo tool bar has a free anti-spy cleaning tool. Works real well. Finds trojans too.

jack jack jack.

so where did you get this "warning"? was it a popup? if so it was probably something wanting to sell you their cleaner.

try this one first. fast and simple.

it will open to the page and then if you have XP (I don't know about any other OS) you will have to go to the yellow toolbar to download the Active X to run the scan. Personally I would click GET RID OF IT for everything that comes up - if it does.

same thing - different location

Let me know if it doesn't work for you.

I use SpySweeper & it works well with XP Pro. I think it was about $20.00 at Costco

THANK YOU for that link. I downloaded it & you are absolutely right it is so easy to use. Downloads so fast & cleans up your computer even faster. I love it.
I set it to clean my computer every time I sign on.
For me it would have to be easy because I don't understand a darn thing about computers.

I have a problem that maybe you can help me with.
When I go to Google & play a video it starts & plays for a few seconds & stops. I start it again & it plays the same few seconds and then a few seconds more. It keeps this up until I have the entire video, but I have to start it over & over again. Why does it do this or how can I fix it.

mcjane - it's just downloading. it sounds like you're on dial up? even with broadband it takes a few minutes to load sometimes.

No glassgrl, wish it were just that. It does download, takes awhile & when it's finished downloading it starts that stop & start stuff.

Click start & it plays for 5 seconds, stops & you start it again & it plays the 5 seconds & adds 5 seconds more, then stops. If you keep repeating this you eventuallg get the entire video. Then you click "play" & the entire video will play.

Jack,

You might want to write Microsoft and ask for a refund since their Windows OS is so buggy and lets other people steal your data.

After you remove all the spyware you can make your computer safe from further infection by putting cling wrap between the internet connection and your computer, or change to a secure OS.

Jack...The majority of the spyware most programs find is tracking cookies. Just delete your cookies and you've cleaned up about 95% of the problems. Use one or more of the free programs such as Adaware or Spybot to ferrett out the rest of the pesky ones hiding elswhere. Be sure that whatever program you use is updated with the most recent update. That's the main reason to consider a free online scan such as Glassgrl suggested. Remember, no one program will find them all. The best one so far is only 55% successful, and Microsoft bought it a while back, presumably to integrate it into their OS.
