I am trying to describe a postcard I am listing and in the description I want to say that I see a name (presumably of the boat) on the "LIFE PRESERVER" ???? (that doughnut shaped thing) - can anyone help me with the right name of the life preserver thingie?? TIA

Midshipman Horatio Ralphie emphatically declaims:

those LIFE PRESERVER thingys are called LIFE PRESERVERS!

I, otoh, used to call them: "doughnuts"

Maybe ole Classic da Swabbie will chime in on the subject and enlighten us all with his "wisdom?"

Neg-being thats a warship-it wouldnt have the name of the ship anywhere on it.I have never heard of a torpedo boat-this looks very old.Im not sure what that white circular thing on the stack is as there would be no reason to have one life peserver there.Below is our ship in the south pacific in April 1966 heading for Bangkok,Thialand from Vietnam for "some enchanted evening" As you can see there is a letter and number designation-but you wont see the name of the ship.

It's a toilet seat stolen from the men's room of a Texaco gas station. Those swabbies will take anything that's not nailed down.

Thanks you all - Since I can't make out the writing on the Life Preserver or toilet seat I guess I won't address it. I think the picture is from the 1914 Vera Cruz incident (US invasion of Mexico).

Big Deal!

We fought the Battle of the 1971 Super Bowl!

Otto Graham was AD at the USCG ACADEMY then & he gave our Captain (Wrongway Peachfuzz) a few tickets to the SUPER-BOWL...

Only problem was: we were in BOSTON & the game was in MIAMI & we only had (?) 3 days to cruise down there...

That schmuch put the pedal to da metal & ran that sucker at 33knots all the way, including a storm off HATTERAS!

Never been so scared in me life...THAT storm dented-IN the 1/2" steel of the GUN MOUNT by about 3" -- we almost SANK in that mad dash to GLORY!

EAT YER HEART OUT!

Got stuff? PLEASE join RALPHIE & ME in some AUCTIONS for our favorite NON-PROFIT~Thank You!
