This is made out of wood. There are some faint markings on the back. It's from the same place that the records, etc came from. It is approx 18 inches across or more and about 8 inches high. is this a Trasher or a Treasure ?

Hmm, kind of looks like a gear. I don't think I would toss it. Would make a good candy bowl.

Mike, what in the heck is this thing? She had this on her wall. I asked her who made it or where she got it. She said that she didnn't remember and that it probably came from her parents. (remember, she's 86 years old but as she says, has all of her "marbles) Are the marks on the back the artist's marks? or just someone testing out their wood carving tools?

Really don't have a clue what it is. A hand carved wood bowl gear wall hanging type thingey. It is however what is called tiger stripe or curly wood grain. Looks like it might be maple.

Paloma: The mark on the back looks like a Native American mark of some sort; I'd guess the Northwest or Alaska. I don't think the SW Indians made bowls from wood like that. It just doesn't "feel" Southwestern. It's obviously handmade, chiseled. Just trying to think what category I'd put it in. Maybe collectibles/cultural/Native American?

Or, another thought--garden or patio art; home and garden has a subcategory like that, I believe.

I don't consider the bowl trash; it may not be a huge treasure, either, but if you list it, be sure to give its provenance.

It reminds me of the chunky carved wood pieces that were popular in the mid to late 70's. Didn't any of you go through the Mediterranean trend?

I think the back carvings could be from Mexico or Italy.

I am going to try to list this sunday. Any idea of type of wood besides maple? It kind of looks like maple to me too. Should I use tiger stripe or curly wood grain in the description?
