I am really upset ... yesterday, read an article in our Akron Beacon Journal paper about a local guy w/ cancer whose mom convinced him to sell ad space on his bald head, on ebay. Nice article ... inspiring ... I had gone and looked at the auction, (still had till this Tuesday evening till it ended) ... it was at 51$ with many hundreds of 'hits' on the counter ... i bookmarked it to watch the progess ...

Checked on this morning, and it's GONE.
I'd read the whole listing; can't see where there was any kind of 'violation'. ebay sux.

Bids on eBay could help pay bills

It may be the smallest billboard in the world.

David Mise Jr.'s bald head is on the eBay auction block.

Mise, 20, is out of work while he continues chemotherapy for Hodgkins Lymphoma, which was diagnosed in May.

Looking for a way to pay for medical bills not covered by his health insurance and to provide for other living expenses, Mise turned to eBay, the online auction Web site, and put his head up for sale as a living and breathing advertising space.

The auction is set to end Tuesday at 4:35 p.m. EDT.

``I have no way of getting any kind of income at all,'' said Mise, who worked at Weaver Sheet Metal on Manchester Road before he got sick.

The business is owned by his father, Dave Mise Sr.

Because of the risk of infection at the sheet metal shop, he said, he cannot work during his chemotherapy.

He got his fourth chemo treatment Friday and is to receive chemo until December.

If the cancer in his neck and chest are gone by then, the chemo will end, he said. But if the tumors are still there, chemo will continue for several more months.

Mise and Staci Bailey, the parents of a 5-month-old son, Ayden, live with his father and stepmother in Akron's Ellet area.

When Mise's short dark hair began to fall out in the last few weeks, he shaved it all off.

``I will wear clothes, hats, do-rags, and any kind of temporary tattoo (can't get real tats for infection and platelet levels) or anything you can think of,'' he wrote in his eBay auction item.

``Upon winning, you can send me anything that you wish for me to wear/advertise,'' he said.

Keep in mind, he wrote, ``that when in the sun I have to cover my head with something but inside I am normally bare and bald.''

Catherine England, a spokeswoman for eBay, said others have auctioned body parts for advertising on the Web site. But she said she did not know if a cancer patient had ever auctioned off his or her head before.

``It never ceases to amaze me how creative people can be,'' said England. ``It is what makes the eBay community unique and exciting.

``People are always seeking creative ways to not only sell but many people find eBay as a way to connect to others in similar situations.''

Mise's stepmother, Cathy Mise, said she encouraged him to be creative with his head since he lost his hair to chemo.

``I said, `You have this free space and you need the money,''' she said. ``I said, `You can get some attention. Get it out there. There are so many weird things on eBay.'''

To see his eBay item, go to www.ebay.com and search for item number 330011810015.

That is a shame for sure. He didn't say it was to help pay bill did he in auction if so Ebay can't stand anyone wanting to do a self help auction. No charity at home from ebay at all.

irked; yeah, he said it was to help pay his medical bills ...

but jeez, i've seen college kids do unusual auctions stating it was to pay school bills, so wtf is the difference.
