Yep... you missed it... eBay originally issued this in their "safe payment policy" which has now been changed to "accepted payment policy" It's located at:
I'm still not convinced about the legality of their policy... if they're just a venue, they should have no say over what payments I can or can not accept.

I agree that eBay doesn't have the right to decide how payment is made, but if I were a buyer, I would never send cash. You have no type of paper trail to prove you paid.

"You can mention cash in your post auction correspondence with your buyers. Some people are doing that."
Yep, that's what I do, usually only for international sales. I get an envelope with some cash in it about once every three months. No problems. Hmm. So far!

When mailing cash never, ever send it "Registered" as that screams STEAL ME! Instead place cash (banknotes only, no coins) between sheets of thick paper or card and mail in plain envelope with no special marking on outside. Seal edges with clear tape. This is known as safety through obscurity and was recommended by both the the CIA & old KGB training manuals.
To avoid disputes about the amount enclosed have the envelope sent direct to your bank with deposit instructions enclosed. (Not recommended in USA due to certain provisions of Patriot Act.)
