Gift shops have them; check with some of them. I'm offered more than I can actually use by friends who own one. They keep a bin of them and occasionally have too much for their bin!

Also, consider those small air pillows for filler; I frequently use them on the top after I've used peanuts in the bottom of a package and placed the item in the box. Our local Radio Shack gets loads of these pillows with shipments and gladly gives them to me.

I know this isn't about fill but I've recently discovered a great source for sturdy cardboard boxes:

I would like to know more about shipping peanuts. I see them on ebay, shipping Priority in large clear plastic bags. I go on the PO site and do the figuring, and I can't figure out how they ship them so cheaply.

Shipping priority is a "generic" term. The only time I ordered them Fedx delivered them.

We used to order them from the former Parrothead88 on eBay. They vacuum-packed a "tube" of them about 2.5-feet across and about 4-feet high -- or whatever the size limits are (combined 108-inches, I think).

They ended up at just more than $11.00 ea. They were shipped Priority Mail and the cost to them would have been about $4.05 since they probably didn't tip the scales at more than 16-ounces.

We then tried www.eSupplyStore.com and they ship 4 loosely packed bags for about $40.00 and they are shipped Priority Mail. However, they don't come close to the volume Parrothead was doing.

Since then, we've found a source in our local Pack-N-Ship store where we can get 14-cubic-feet of them for $23.00. That's about 5-feet tall and 4-feet across. They're not vacuum packed, but they're tight.

We've tried going hunting for packing materials, but we end up spending more time locating acceptable materials than their value. However, we have friends who own a custom framing and art supply store -- and never thought to ask them about their packing supplies (peanuts and bubble wrap).

We'll still buy our boxes - it's something we have a pet peeve about since we've received some pretty nasty boxes from other sellers, we've promised our customers (and ourselves) that would never happen with us.

You can check vitamin and drug stores. Gift Shops. Recycling centers. Put up a want ad in Craigs list or Freecycle. People who sell Partylite products often have peanuts to dispose of. I haven't had to buy any peanuts for years as I have my name and phone number on a local green star recycling website.

Cylinder Volume formula.

V = Volume
r = radius
h = height

V = pi X r squared X h

I buy peanuts from Uline. I get a truckload at a time and buy my box's at the same time. Yes you have to buy in volume but with their flat rate shipping it is alot cheaper. Not only that but I only have to buy supplies every year or two.

Be careful with Uline if you live in a shady residential area!! I couldn't get my last order delivered to my door because there were too many trees on the street. It was a hassle and my husband ended up having to take off work to met the guy.
Other than that they have great prices and good strong boxes. I paid under $5.00 for the same box that UPS store charged me $15 and I think that was including the shipping cost.

I love Uline for boxes but have not tried peanuts from them. Everyone at work saves their peanuts for me and I have even shared a few with local eBayers.

I purchase my peanuts, bubble wrap and a special box for Mark's yard art from Uline.

I wish the post offices would have a bin for packing peanuts. I always see tons being dumped in the garbage cans.

ULINE does have UPS-able sized bags of peanuts available, so that would alleviate the "freight" truck not being able to get past the trees on your street!
